Appointed Sheriff Gregory Tony
has announced he's running in 2020 b/c he doesn't want to be a placeholder sheriff, so he can effectively keep his promise of restoring the public's "shattered" confidence and faith in the Broward Sheriff's Office and its deputies.
Tony's predecessor, suspended Sheriff Scott Israel, also already
announced he's running when Gov. DeSantis fired him last month, promising that people will see his name when they go to their ballot in 2020.
Both are Democrats, which means both will be facing off against each other in the August 2020 Democratic primary (which now promises to be intense) rather than the November 2020 general election. Tony says he has zero interest in entertaining himself with what Israel is going to do; his focal point is about what he feels needs to be done at the BSO, & in order to do that, he needs to win in 2020.
