B.

It was a triangulating-type speech. A Clinton 1995-ish type speech.

However, he is still unpopular.

B-. The comments about investigations, late-term abortion, immigration, and socialism were laughable. But there were a lot of really memorable moments. In fact, it was largely conciliatory to some leftist causes like prison reform and ending wars.

But yeah, he still sucks.

I thought it was a pretty darn good speech. So many powerful stories told, and I really loved the focus on history. I give it an A.

C+/B- (which is really good for him... I'm not grading on a curve)

I agree with this:

B-. The comments about investigations, late-term abortion, immigration, and socialism were laughable. But there were a lot of really memorable moments. In fact, it was largely conciliatory to some leftist causes like prison reform and ending wars.

But yeah, he still sucks.

Also the "Hillary would be in Korean War 2 now" part was odd.

Peace with the Taliban was noteworthy.

The "happy birthday" song near the end woke me up.

There was a decent amount of "feel good" stuff, and I think there were some real areas of possible progress pointed out: paid family leave, prescription drug costs, etc.

He gets some platitudes right, but he did give himself complete credit for there being no war with North Korea.

Abortion hysteria, immigration hysteria, and Mueller tinfoil hat nonsense each cost him a letter grade. D.

He went an a xenophobic rant about immigrants and hypocritically gave some of the most partisan lines in a SOTU address ever while calling for unity. But he didn’t poop his pants so a C+

It’s a B. He did well for himself. But it won’t change anything.

Profit, profit over everything
Damn the public, give 'em the shaft!
We don't need excessive government
All we need is plenty of graft!
We don't want any Commie unions
Our profits to annoy!
Send the liberals and their pinko friends

It was pretty decent compared to other speeches Trump has given, which makes it an F on a normal standard for how a competent President would be graded.

Didn't watch yet, but I suspect that people are grading based on the incredibly low bar everybody sets for Trump. The speech might have been good by Trumps standards, but was it actually a good speech? I doubt that very much.

That was one of the best moments of the SOTU, when he talked about how the US will never become a Socialist Country.
