In today's America, why would a white male NASCAR fan vote Democrat?

Because he sides politically with Democrats? Is this meant to be a parody?

NASCAR may skew southern, white and male, but it's not monolith.  I wouldn't recommend someone triggered by MAGA hats to go to a race, but they don't check for Republican credentials at the gate.  I even saw black guys at the few races I went to in the 90s.

Its the natural end game of people who try to attach politics to literally everything - and then when someone who doesn't fit the stereotype comes along they don't quite understand it.  Seems a lot more common from the people who don't follow anything else and treat politics in the same way that others might treat football or rugby or whatever sport they are into.

I never thought I would see such a simple, well stated and badly needed post in a bronz thread, but you're absolutely right.

I try!

I actually have personal experience of this from elsewhere: one of my other big loves is pro wrestling and I've been involved in a few pro wrestling/MMA related online things (they tend to go together on the internet, which probably isn't THAT surprising - I'm less into MMA but I'll watch a big fight if I'm in the mood for it) where people make the assumption that all wrestling fans must surely be big Trump people so you get the attempted edgy joke which generally leads to them getting told to go away rather rudely.  I'm someone who's also very political but I don't get the sort of person that needs their partisan politics to dominate them to that extent - I mean my politics do bleed through into it a little (I'm a big fan of women's wrestling and a strong believer in the need to proactively push for gender equality in the sport which is primarily because of my belief in equality; and also because there are a lot of very good women wrestlers around who deserve to have some sort of opportunity to get into the big time) but that's different: its adapting your views to talk about the thing in question and not just me going "woo Patrick Harvie" randomly in a totally unrelated conversation.

Hell I'm not into NASCAR but I watch Indycar when its on TV which is very similar: and I'm a white Scottish socialist who's a member of the Green Party!  It does sound a little hypocritical and honestly it is - my argument is primarily that in the big scheme of things the existence of motor racing (especially a form of motorsports that is actively trying to reduce its environmental impact; which NASCAR doesn't really do) does not impact the environment in any major way.

NASCAR fans only supported Romney by seven points in 2012. Of course, things have changed much since then.

Portland hipsters love to be contrarians. He probably watches nascar so that he can claim he was a nascar fan before it was cool to his lefty friendship circle.

Believe it or not there are more than a few rural, blue collar white dudes that love cars and racing and anything mechanical... that are pretty much just not interested in being conservative or voting for Republicans.  I think they often feel shut out of political discourse and keep quiet and probably don't vote if it wont make a difference... but they're all over the place.

A good chunk of the guys I worked under when I was at my school’s facilities department (a combination of tradesmen, skilled labor, and maintenance guys) lived outside the city, liked hunting, and were liberal. They had enthusiasm for Sanders (though at least one went Trump and regretted it) and liked gun rights. The union steward was a guy that people thought was in Duck Dynasty and identified as a democratic socialist.

Simple. Class interests, given the democrats' deciding to focus for the top 20%. Given expenses of tickets for sports events, safe to assume the more serious sports fans are either democrats or romney/other nevertrumper type reps.

Some Democrats make the assumption that sport fans are all knuckle-drugging neanderthals. Truth to be matter, the vast majority of fans are working class or minority, as the case with football. Professional sports are actually most popular in the urban enclaves of cities like Boston, New York and Philadelphia.

As an avid NASCAR fan I can confirm that every NASCAR race is like a Klan rally, lol.

Seriously though I'm sure there are NASCAR fans that vote Democrat not everything is about politics. I'm not sure why NASCAR would affect how you vote.
