While 2 states (AZ and KS) were below R+1, the tipping point state of Iowa was R+11. The Green Party still needed more time to appeal to middle America, they would need Bernie Sanders to do so, who believe it or not would be seen as a more moderate candidate than Nader.

--------------

Al Gore was the most outspoken candidate on global climate change, a key issue in the election. Thus he was the best candidate to win moderates, keep moderate Democrats in line, and probably the only candidate who had any shot at winning Texas or New York in this election. Both states were must-win for Nader to even have a shot.

As for the Republican party, their best performance regarding actual voters was in Wyoming with just under 6%. The Republicans, or the Anti-Democracy Party, continue to fight a losing battle against direct voting for President, continuing to argue that the president must be indirectly elected by the people's representatives, not through the people themselves. Only three states still support this system. With the nomination of Al Gore, the Republicans saw an opening with those who still disbelieve in the idea of anthropomorphic climate change, attempting to win over the most right wing Democrats. However even strongly conservative voters are increasingly protective over the right to directly vote for the President or for Senators, so climate change "skeptics" held their noses for Gore.

Was there an equation that got you these results, like you did for the 1968 maps above?

Was there an equation that got you these results, like you did for the 1968 maps above?

Using Gore vs. Nader as an example

First I post everything in a spreadsheet, then

Bush result * (Nader total/Bush total)

Nader result * (Bush total/Nader total)

Compare to Gore result and other third parties.

The columns in the spreadsheet are

A: state (the 3 without Nader on ballot removed)
B: actual Gore result
C: actual Bush result
D: actual Nader result
E: others
F: same as B (for convenience)
G: equation to get new Bush results
H: equation to get new Nader results
I: same as E (for convenience)
J: total of f:i
K: f/j
L: g/j
M: h/j

Senate Party Flips (Most Recent)

Oldest

Hawaii/DC hold the record for Dems by never flipping, Rhode Island has the record for Dems by length.

Kansas holds the record for the GOP and overall.

1980
After four years of Wallace, the left wing of the Democrats revolts and backs the Independent-Liberal-Libertarian campaign of Ramsey Clark. The GOP gets behind George Bush, who unites most of the party's factions, but is unable to convince the remnants of the Conservative party to back him. Sen. Coors of Colorado runs as the Conservative nominee. From the start of the year it is obvious that Bush will win.

George Bush/Howard Baker (GOP) def. George Wallace/Peter Rodino (Dem), Ramsey Clark/Allard Lowenstein (Liberal-Libertarian), Joseph Coors/David Koch (Conservative)

1984
The Democrats nominate Senator Brandemas of Indiana. George Bush wins reelection over Ramsey Clark has an about face. He refuses to jump ship to the Democrats and becomes a staunch opponent of the Bush administration and both major parties. His campaign falls apart when he begins to issue statements that seem apologetic about the Eastern Bloc and various dictatorships.

1988
Bush is succeeded by Vice President Baker. He faces Senator Coelho of California, a centrist. Ramsey Clark runs again but is relegated to the position of ineffectual gadfly.

1992
Howard Baker's term has been fairly unpopular. He is overwhelmingly defeated by Ralph Nader/George McGovern (Democratic) and also both parties split with conservative factions running independently.

Might make this into a TL, might not. Basically, what I did was split Wallace's OTL vote share in every state, giving about 75% to Wayne and 25% to Humphrey since Wayne was more in line with the views of Wallace and his voters than Humphrey could be, then I switched over 5% of Humphrey's performance in every state to Wayne due to his status as an American icon untainted by politics and a major focus on Law & Order while he speaks vaguely about his plans for Vietnam outside of stating he supports the troops and will, as President, work the best way he can to end the war.

1912 in a timeline where Eugene Debs is a working-class populist who supports an alliance between factory workers and white farmers. He was elected Governor of Indiana in 1908.

Imagine if this happened in the 1948 Election and then Barkley died in like a Car Crash in December, leaving the Democrats without an official VP Nominee, so its likely they either go with Warren or Truman goes with Wright, but with some concessions for Wright, and the Dixiecrats, to accept first for Truman to be elected by the House and Wright by the Senate.
