2016 - Election deadlocks after Trump wins 270-268 and House chooses McMullin over numerous candidates in the contingent election. Tim Kaine becomes VP with the Senate 50-50 and casts a vote for himself.

2020 - after Donald Trump loses the 2016 election to McMullin and Clinton, he seeks the GOP nomination winning it easily facing against Bernie Sanders as his rival after McMullin declines to seek a second term saying one term is enough. Sanders win easily against a disunited GOP in the biggest electoral landslide in 32 years. For the first time in history, VP nominees from both major parties are women.

Here's an even more wild scenario. Election night mostly plays out the same as our timeline but by midnight it's clear even stranger things set in motion. Clinton is called the winner in PA as news networks determine there aren't enough remaining rural ballots for Trump to win but even as he leads by under 15,000 votes in WI, under 5,000 in MI and Clinton leads by under 3,000 in AZ, It's clear that this is a realigning election. By far the biggest story of the night is McMullin pulling it out in UT by around 1,000 votes over Trump. Ultimately, Trump leads with 269 electoral votes, one electoral vote away from 270, Clinton trails Trump with 263 and McMullin has his six Utah electoral votes. In this timeline, I'd imagine Trump would try to work out a deal with McMullin that he'd give up his electors and have them vote for Trump in exchange for Trump offering him a Secretary of State position. In this timeline though, McMullin turns down the offer. When it comes to vote, faithless electors change the totals to make it Trump 267 and Clinton 258. McMullin still has the third highest amount of electoral votes so the House vote to break the tie is between Trump, McMullin and Clinton. In a remarkable turnaround, the GOP state delegations decide to vote McMullin into office, feeling Trump in office could have negative repercussions for the party in the future.

"Repeat after me"
"I David Evan McMullin do solemnly swear" I David Evan McMullin do solemnly swear
"That I will faithfully execute" That I will faithfully execute
"The Office of President of the United States" The Office of President of the United States
"And will to the best of my ability" And will to the best of my ability
"Preserve, protect and defend" Preserve, protect and defend
"The Constitution of the United States" The Constitution of the United States
"So help me God!" So help me God!

Congratulations Mr. President!

Governor of Tennessee Hercules Taffs (1920-2021) runs as a liberal populist, supporting a Department of Education, drilling in Alaska, reducing consumption and signing peace deals to avoid another oil shock, expanding Medicare to cover all Americans, government reforms, a pragmatic foreign policy which took into account human rights, and repealing the Taft-Hartley Act. Instead of the playboy interview, Taffs said "I'll get back to you on that one" when asked about his achievements as governor other than "not being corrupt", and narrowly lost the first debate.
