Bernie Sanders is not good at debating. He just yells the same 5 talking points over and over. This kind of worked in a one on one race with Hillary Clinton where she disagreed with some of the talking points. Against 20 people who all agree with every one of them, it's really not a good tactic at all. Bernie is going to struggle. I wouldn't be surprised if he failed to win a single state at this point, however my prediction as of this moment is that he'll win only Vermont and Minnesota.

Additionally, he's going to get eaten alive when he's in a debate with Castro and de Blasio and they attack him over his past immigration positions. He'll agree with them and apologize of course but it will just make him look weak and he won't get any credit.

We get it. A lot of Atlas just hates Bernie. You are not representative of primary voters.

I don't "just hate" Bernie, I've been one of his consistent defenders on this site. But there's no mistaking it, he lost tonight's debate.

Take off your blinders. He didn't lose or win.

Blinders off. He needed to do well in this debate, and he didn't. There were good points he could have made several times, and he failed to make them.

It's the first debate, and an over-packed one at that. Sanders of all people isn't at the stage where they need to do well yet. That really only applies, if it does to anyone, to the candidates whose poll numbers are anemic or non-existent.

Fair, I guess. But I doubt he does any better in future debates.

Bernie felt far younger than Biden last night.

I thought Sanders felt way older. Biden was a coherent and smooth talker, while Sanders struggled to make good points. Though maybe I'm overcorrecting for my predictions.

That is somehow the exact opposite of my experience. I thought Biden was slurring his words and struggling to put coherent thoughts together a substantial portion of the time. Bernie at least had a consistent message as usual which he gets out just fine.

Yeah, but it often seems like Sanders is getting around his age by just repeating the same three talking points over and over again. And he often fails to make good points because of that.

Sanders was mediocre but he had some decent parts - One the Iraq War, On medicare for all, on calling trump for betraying workers & his ending statement. It was decent & probably only Kamala Harris was decisively better. Given the format & number of candidates, it was what he could.

Same with Warren. Even she wasn't too good.

Biden faltered & that is what counts. Sanders is the #2 choice of Biden voters. Biden will go after Harris & they can take each other out.

The debates are clusterf**k though. Take Sanders, Biden, Warren, Harris, Buttigieg as Top 5 & maybe 1-2 of Booker, Castro, O'Rourke. This 10 person nonsense with losers has to stop. The poll mark should be 3% atleast & there shouldn't be more than 6-7 candidates.

I agree with this.

Yeah, I'll give him that too even though I think they both performed poorly and would not make good nominees in spite of their name recognition and established personas.

His favorabilty went up (and is now higher than anyone else's) and so did his percentage of the vote according to Morning Consult so yeah... not bad.

And unfavorables went down too. And he gained 3% (Highest after Kamala who was the clear winner). Biden lost 10% & Bernie is the #2 Choice of Biden supporters. Let Biden Harris & Buttigieg tear into each other in the next debate

His numbers didn't improve as well as Kamala's though, so there's a new threat.

That's quite a goalpost move from the claim that Bernie was the loser of the debate.

Everyone is a threat & this is a marathon. Not getting hit badly for people like Biden & Sanders is also an achievement. Kamala's record will also come under scrutiny.

The 1st 2 debates are a clown show of 20 people. The main objective should be to leave with head held high. From the 3rd debate, the field will go down to 7-8-9 people & then by 4/5th debate it will go down to 5-6 serious contenders & then the real game will begin.

People have to stop over-reacting. Ohh Sanders is finished. Ohh Biden is crashing. Ohh Warren is over because of the Native American issue !! This is not a 1 week game.

Not gonna argue that. Harris did wonderfully and you should be proud and excited.

Just dunking a little on the people who were pretending that Sanders did as poorly or worse than Biden, lol.

I hope you'll be having a meltdown when straight white male Joe Biden wins the Democratic nomination and then loses the general, leading to an actual progressive being nominated in 2024.

Why not?

Hillary did for less than what Biden has on him, and after that debate performance, this even goes for the energy needed to counteract those misgivings.

This means lots of voters will likely stay home or vote 3rd party.

No surprise here. It was always obvious that Bernie bros were eager to burn the village in order to save it.
