If you could change the result of one of Nixon's victories, which one would you change?

HHH - McGovern hailed the beginning of the neoliberal age, and began the political career of Bill Clinton.

Voted McGovern, but should have voted HHH as if he would've won, Nixon's career would have been over. Not sure who Republicans would have nominated in 1972. It would have changed a lot. Carter would've never been president. Republican's image / reputation wouldn't have been hurt in the 1970's, and maybe something about segregation / southern democrats would have been different. And Chile's dictatorship would've been prevented when HHH was president, no war on drugs, earlier civil rights, earlier retreat of troops in Vietnam, and possibly different handling on China / Soviet-Union (Nixon established ties with PRC).

Would've preffered RFK winning in 1968 over those two options though (and that's a popular WI scenario i think).

I can see no realistic scenario where McGovern would have won, or Nixon's first term would have had to be disastreous. Well, i changed my vote to HHH.

Lean HHH in this scenario, however his reluctance to distance himself from LBJ's Vietnam policies means that the Democrats will keep total ownership of, and blame for, the war (assuming there is no plan to withdraw). That, together with fatigue with the Dems and a trailing economy, could run the risk of a Republican sweep in 1972 and an early "Reagan Revolution".

If Humphrey exits from Vietnam and the economy improves, you may see a reversal of historical fates, party-wise. IE, Humphrey wins 72, Laxalt 76, Kennedy 80 & 84, etc.
