Schumer: "We saw a temper tantrum. Because he couldn't get his way, and he just walked out of the meeting."

Why doesn't Congress simply pass a funding bill and override Trump's veto?

McTurtle is refusing to allow any vote on the bills that The House will be sending to the Senate.
But, let's hope he changes his mind, as the bills are going to reach him later this week and also next week.

Doing so would be political suicide for Mitch McConnell and it would reflect very badly on any Republican Senator who votes for an override.

That being said, I think this option becomes more and more likely with each passing week.

Perhaps we should start mailing pacifiers to the White House?

Why doesn't Congress simply pass a funding bill and override Trump's veto?

In a nutshell, 99% of congressional Republicans are either pussies, crazy, or a combination thereof.

Right now, Republican support for such a move is increasing, but the rate of increase is a trickle, not a torrent.

However, I wouldn't rule out a torrent coming soon.

How likely is it that this might be what does McConnell in?

Does anyone expect anything but a Democratic victory at the end of this whole ordeal? There is no way Nancy is going to even budge on the wall. The polls say it all: Americans blame Trump and his party for the shutdown, his approval rating is dropping, and an overwhelming majority oppose the wall and shutting down the government over it.

I thought Trump was going to have all of his negotiations with Schumer and Pelosi in front of cameras? What happened to Mr. Transparency?

What I am most confused about is ...
Was it not just last week when the trump/Pence team was bitching and hollering about the Dems not negotiating by sending their leadership team to the table, but instead just sending staffers?

So when the Dem leaders do show-up to the table, Childish Donnie says the whole thing "is a waste of time," and storms-out like a crybaby.
What gives?

Can't have a good show without cameras, though. I think he's just scared.

Does this sequence remind anyone of the scene between Tom Cruise and Joe Pantaliano in Risky Business?

"Now you listen to me!"

"No, you listen to me!"

Why? "The Wall," the shutdown, and Trump are all extremely unpopular right now. I don't see how refusing to back the president on something so unpopular would be "suicide."

Because I genuinely believe that for all their tough as nails politicking, that Pelosi and Schumer, unlike Trump, have emotions and empathy for other people and deplore the suffering and financial hardships Federal workers and the communities they serve are starting to endure. The biggest weakness, if you want to call it that, in Democrats sticking to this is Trump literally absolutely does not give a flying s*** how many people he Harms or how badly, or even the country itself, so long as he gets what he wants. Pelosi and Schumer might just give him his toy wall so federal employee families don't get foreclosed on, and kids who rely on food stamps don't go down to one meal a day.

That, and to add some cynicism to it, Urban recipients of food stamps and federal workers are both important Democratic constituencies whom might eventually yell uncle loud enough for Pelosi and Schumer to at least partially cave.
