By the power granted to me under Article 7 of the Union Party Bylaws as Southeast Regional Chairman, I would like to put forth a resolution to dissolve the Union Party.

Part of the reason is that there is some clamor from different people within and without the party to create anew parties that emphasize different aspects of the political spectrum we hold.  Also, since the party is basically inactive, I don't like inactive parties to exist.  Smiley

We need 2/3rds approval of Regional Chairmen, of which there are only 3 presently (myself, MHS2002 and Colin Wixted)

We also need 2/3rds approval of active membership, defined as those who voted in the last federal election.

Those members are:
Bacon King (Abstain)
Ben (Aye)
Bullmoose88 (Aye)
Colin Wixted
KEmperor (Nay)
MHS2002 (Aye)
Sam Spade (Aye)
ThePrezMex (Nay)
Wildcard

If there's anyone I'm missing, please add.

Wow!  1 year and 7 days?  That's a pretty good run for an Atlasian party.  Unfortunately it didn't beat the current record, which is still held by the Jesus Christ Party (1 year, 7 months, 12 days, and counting).

Vote recorded and noted.

Btw, do you want to be chair of the party, if this measure fails?

Maybe I will rejoin. Maybe I won't. It's too bad what's happened to the party, though.

Fwiw, I'm also doing this because of lack of leadership when Q left.

If someone seriously wants to become chairman and run the party, I would probably withdraw the motion.  And I have decided against retaking the chairman spot.

I have no interest in keeping a leaderless party going; I would prefer to see it go the way of Farmer-Labor if it has to.

The problem is, I don't know if I would make a very good leader, so even if I rejoined, I don't know if I could run an entire party if no-one else wanted to...

Could someone please explain to me what happened and why this happened?

I vote no for the dissolve.  I cannot accept a position of party chairman, it is far to overt a political position for me to take.

If it does collapse may I extend a hand out to former members. I believe the Civic Alliance is a worthy sucessor party Smiley

Wow, the collapse of the Constitutional Union Party; the last remnant of the UAC.

Ya'll are all welcome in the CDP, of course, a party for not only populists but centrists and all who want to make positive change in our government.

I would actually recommend they join one of the other parties, which support more bureaucracy, more corruption, and less power to the people.  Wink

The JCP is the only original party left...Defining "original" as pre-Revolution. It was also created before the Constitution was ratified, the JCP members being the only ones to vote against it. Smiley

I left the party becuase it was in demise, and I would take it over as Chairman, however I feel like I would not beable to bring it to the prestige it needs to be to be an active office holding establishment in Atlasia. Goodbye Union, you will be missed.
