After speculation that he might retire, Minority Whip Durbin is here to stay. Safe D, obviously.

Not surprised, since Paul Simon, his mentor, kept it up as long as he did.

Safe Democratic regardless.

I like him, but would have liked someone younger run instead (except for Rahm).

Not surprised at all. He probably wants to be Majority Whip and then retire in 2026. Wonder who the GOP will put up.

Safe D, though Durbin certainly is vulnerable to a primary challenge from another Chicago area politician, at least in theory.

Just as I did in 2014, I proudly endorse Senator Durbin for re-election.

Yeah that sounds right. I agree that Durbin will probably retire in 2026.

She's the one that went public about the pressure that was being put on her to vote for Madigan as speaker. FF, but she is unlikely to win, and I am unlikely to vote for her. Puzzling that she would run for US Senate after just winning election to IL House. Likely just trying to build her brand, I'd guess.

Durbin running is of course great news because he is a FF and also because it will keep Bustos in IL17, which would be much more competitive if not for her.

Obvious Safe D.

The GOP candidate to face off against him is to be determined, although far-right pro-Trump hack and ex-Democrat Peggy Hubbard is likely going to run for the GOP nomination.
