Also, you did absolutely nothing to refute my claim that this is unlimited immigration. They go through a court. So what? Is there a limit to the number of people who will be allowed to pass through the court?

Is there one now as a misdemeanor that goes through criminal court?

Warren/Castro is the best choice for Dems. Both are putting together great progressive policies and having Castro on the ticket will help boost Latino turnout.
Castro has been dropping fire policy proposals. He would be an amazing surrogate in TX, AZ, and for the burgeoning Latino electorate in GA. I hope she picks him!

O’Rourke gives nearly  all the same benefits Castro does, but is actually charismatic and a good campaigner.

I mean, he's white. But charisma is arguably more important than being a certain race.

She's going to the Child Detention Center in Florida THE DAY OF THE FIRST DEBATE. That's guts of steel.

America needs immigrants. We have entire towns that are disappearing in Main Street and an aging workforce that needs replacement. Immigrants coming from Central America are clearly fleeing a bad scene like the Italians and Irish did before them to seek the opportunity for a better life. This isn't that complicated, make the process easier. There's no reason for children and their parents to be suffering dangerous journeys and even death when they can fly over here in an airplane.

Deportation is NOT a criminal punishment - it’s a civil one, and can still be carried out by order of a civil/immigration court.

If you think deportation is a criminal punishment, or should be, then anyone who is detained for deportation becomes entitled to 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th Amendment Rights during the proceedings. Do you want to do that? Because that’s what it would be. I’m fine with that, but I feel like you wouldn’t be.

Also, in many states, traffic violations are civil offenses. Does that mean those states have “unlimited traffic violations”?

It’s pure racism. Half of these people screaming know damn well immigrants don’t impact their lives in a negative way.

There is no reason for non-doctor immigrants to live in small town America and nothing forcing them to stay there. Make the coasts even more crowded!

The Italians and Irish are responsible for more crime than anyone who ever lived so hardly great examples to make a case for even more.

The Italians and Irish are fundamental to the American experience. The criminality of these groups is exaggerated and we're not living in a pre-computer world. Fighting crime has never been easier and while there will obviously be some criminal element among any group it's nothing that a competent and unbiased government can not handle. Every study ever done shows immigrants commit crime at a lower percentage than native born Americans. The U.S. Cities on the border of Mexico with large Latino populations are actually much safer than the equivalent sized cities on the Canadian border or other American cities.

So yeah, Warren's in the debate tonight.

Now back to a debate that should belong in its own thread

She also said we need to secure our border. Remember, illegal immigration fell much more under Obama than Bush or Trump. You don't need a goose step to get results. You just need a president whose not invested in there being a crisis so people overlook his corruption & giveaways to party funders.

Don't immigrants also add millions to the economy as well?

I take this back after tonight. Beto would not be a good running mate for Warren, and Castro would actually be really good.

Liz was solid tonight! Alas, I do not think the debate changed anybody's first choice.  Although, Castro may have moved up on the lists of many.

Warren’s backing eliminating private insurance was incredibly stupid. Gives GOP an opening, a Medicare option pretty does the same thing without the baggage.

She had a good night, but that statement really highlights how poor her political instincts are.

How does private health insurance help heal sick people?

We have a country where many diabetics with insurance can't afford their insulin, or the insurance company will only cover one type of insulin when the person's Doctor prescribes something else. People have taken to trading and selling insulin on Facebook and Craigslist or rationing the supply they have.

Health Insurance companies have customers not patients. The sooner we deemphasize them for primary healthcare the better this nation will be.

I wish single-payer advocates would at least be honest about the incredible number of people--throughout the healthcare industry--who will lose their jobs by such a switch.

Public payers don't have patients either. Medicare has beneficiaries; Medicaid has enrollees. Insurers are not caregivers.

"Beneficiaries" connotes something a lot more inclusive than "customers," though, and the connotation would be reflected in reality if there was a public system that did not deny people care or ruin people's livelihoods if they were to need costly treatment...

So why do we need them? Why put a useless middleman between you and medical treatment that siphons off profits that could be better used for treatment?

How does private health insurance help heal sick people?

A **** ton of people get their healthcare plans through private insurance. And a lot of them like their plans. People are dunking on Delaney, but he is right about many union members have private insurance and being content with it. It is not just white suburbanites.

I don't know why some on the left want to die on this hill. A medicare public option ends up doing the same thing. It would end up putting a lot of private companies out of business, but it gives voters a choice, which a lot of them want.

And they can go apply for whatever our national healthcare system will be. You do know that in The United Kingdom the NHS is the largest employer. The NHS is the fifth biggest employer in the entire world.

“Poor political instincts” but has successfully positioned herself to be Biden’s main adversary down the stretch? K. She said what she meant and that goes farther than a rehearsed answer pulled from polling and focus groups. Trump won promising to round up illegals, building a fictional wall, and banning Muslims. Elizabeth Warren will be alright.

Her answer did show poor political instincts.

One reason she is doing well is because she has gotten moderates in the party to warm up to her. Her stance on healthcare is the kind of thing that would scare them away.

Let me provide one of my live tweets from last night's with only a minor edit for content:

"Warren - You cool with medicare for all, that your path?

A: Yeah, medicare for all. Studied why people go broke, medical bills. Including those with s***ty insurance, Amy. Medicare solves this problem. Also those who don't want to do it are lazy ****** who don't care enough."

Of course this is my ultra snarkified Warren voice, not her actual one from the debate. But for the evening I was trying to channel to underlying vibe, not just the top level.

Insurance, private insurance, is a blight on the economy and causes excessive suffering. Yes it works for some, but not enough. And the quicker we transition to a fully non-profit based system the better off we will be as a country.

She really needed to start chipping away at Biden's base but instead she seems laser focused on Bernie's. The whole I'm with Bernie on M4A was unnecessary and made her look like a follower not a leader. She just seems like she wants to outmaneuver Bernie instead of trying to broaden her base.
