We're about a day early for this poll, but I figured why not now?

In frankness, this year basically sucked for me personally but I've also heard from very few people who actually think things improved for them this year compared to last year.  I can't help but sense melancholy pretty much all-around, political developments notwithstanding.  It just feels like most everyone I know had either a rough or average-at-best year and it feels like there's a collective dark cloud overhead on everyone.  I dunno.  Maybe it's just me.  But with the rise in suicide rates and prescription drug use, it wouldn't really surprise me either.

Vote and if at all possible don't vote based on how well your preferred political parties/candidates did in the elections this year, because making one's happiness contingent upon election results is just plain unhealthy.

My life is great. Crazy Rich Asians has really given us the green light to come out into the open and celebrate our culture and lifestyle. I can't complain.

Politically:  HY
Personally:  More of a mixed bag, but definitely more of an HY year for me than 2016 or 2017.  Grad school sucks kiddies.  Since I'm still a well-off White man living in the United States, every year is a FY for me on balance.

This year has possibly been one of the worst of my lives and I won't miss it one bit.

2018 was better than I thought it would be, and certainly better than previous years for me.

As a rule, I disapprove of all years, but 2018 was not notably terrible. I accomplished many things I intended to, though sadly not all. For the Earth’s climate, and thus my beloved fall through spring, it was sadly another setback.

This year has been great for me personally. One of my best yet. The ending has not been that good, worse than the rest of the year, but July-early December have been great for me.

Politically, notwithstanding some good events, HY.

It's been a long ride for me personally, with ups and downs. Overall, though, I'd say my life is way better now than it was a year ago.

Politically it was trash. I miss Obama.

Eh, it was better than 2016 and 2017 but still not perfect, but it’s ending on a promising note at least. This year for my brother has been particularly hard - he averaged a relapse every couple weeks and he probably was only sober for a total of forty days, thirty of which were only after Thanksgiving. He was mostly homeless this year and the week he stayed with me was absolutely horrific. But he’s clean currently and after his last binge at my house before Thanksgiving he truly resolved to get sober. I’m hopeful 2019 will be a good year for him.

Other than that, the only real bad part about 2018 was the loss of my grandma. I’m still grieving, but the grief was never as bad as I thought it would be and the depression I’ve suffered from throughout my life wasn’t too bad this year. My younger autistic brother Harry is thriving in school, is learning job skills, and is more verbal (and literate) than we ever expected.

Politically it was fantastic too. The House Republicans deserved to lose their majority and I was rooting against them. The Senate Republicans deserved to keep their majority and they even expanded it. My old buddy from 2012 successfully managed the DeSantis campaign (didn’t want to reveal his position until after the election, but yeah, he’s an awesome dude) to a comeback victory.

2018 was a good year overall. It wasn’t easy, but it wasn’t out to kill me like years past Tongue

Politically it was sh!t (the midterms were pretty good though).

Personally it was pretty good, the second half was a LOT better than the first half, which sucked. Better than 2017 for sure.

Terrible, worse than 2017, with pretty much the exception of the House flipping, TV, and movies. Better than 2016, but that's not saying much.

Absolutely awful, horrible year. It was probably the worst year of my life (only serious competitor is 2009).

FY. Best year of my whole life probably. 2019 will be even greater.

In terms of politics, this was the year I started tuning it out. I'm content at least telling myself that it's all okay because the money is going to win anyway. Love those Wall $treet donors in politics, they preserve Democracy for the rest of us, at least the way I see it. I'm not worried.

Also, the news is too negative. I think people need to start cutting negativity out of their life more often. Things are better than they ever have been on this planet, yet the media is trying to sell their doom and gloom stories, just don't listen to it because that's just how they sell copies of their news you know.

This is a year in my life where I really started to embrace a can-do attitude and positive thinking, and it's worked wonders. I recommend it to everyone out there. Believe in yourself, focus on what you can control, don't worry about what you can't. Also, remember to never give up and don't let people bring you down. If they're trying to bring you down, they are already below you.
