This is modeled after a very good bill Scott passed in Fremont. It bans judge elections and makes prosecutors subject to retention elections rather than partisan elections. Elected judges are bad. I know Texas and Alabama for sure have partisan elections.

Im not sure if this needs to be a Constitutional amendment or just legislation.

How will judges be picked then?

I do agree with banning partisan elections, but if we are banning elections altogether there should be an alternative method specified right?

2-2 tasks the State governors with that duty.

In Fremont, we passed this as a constitutional amendment just to be on the safe side.

You might want to clarify in the bill that these judges and prosecutors are NPCs, just so that people don't get confused.

Also, glad to see the South taking a page from Fremont for a change. Grin

I ask consent that the designation of this be changed from a bill to a constitutional amendment

That would make sense.

How will this be added into the Constitution, possibly the Bill of Rights? This could be added to the comprehensive constitutional amendment.

This is now a proposed constitutional amendment, and technical changes have been made to the language.

While we could add this to the current consitution, that seems counterproductive since we are separately proposing to replace the current consitution. We could either add this to the comprehensive amendment, or wait until the comprehensive amendment has passed and then do this, at which point this probably gets deferred to next session. What would people prefer to do?

For the record, I am fine with whatever the chamber decides even if that means postponing this until the new Constitution comes up for a vote.
