This seat is Madison's if he wants it in 2026 anyway, so, it's sad that either one will remain a dud til 2026.

Nobody cares about 2026.  We need to stop Mitch McConnell from shutting down the entire government for the entirety of the Biden presidency.  That is the immediate priority.

FYI, Patrick Howley is not a credible source on anything.  In his own bio he boasts about his association with Infowars and OANN.

The fact that a lot of the details in this story are going through him makes it overwhelmingly clear that this is a coordinated alt-right hit job.

Serious question: do voters actually care?

I mean I've never even heard of Patrick Howley literally until today.

This is the last thing we needed.

The Democratic party's pick should have always been Jeff Jackson.

True, but Cal is a goner.

AZ, CO, IA, ME, maybe GA-S, MS

Republicans pick up AL

Foxx, Shuler, Jeff Jackson or Brad Miller. Even Deborah Ross would have made it competitive.

NC Democrats always runs duds for Senate.

Bowles, Elaine Marshall, now Cal Cunningham.

Bowles is a technocrat, not a politician. Should have never ran him in 2002 and 2004.

Obligatory reminder that Democrats are held to higher standards than Republicans.

Why does this thread only have 5 posts about Tillis potentially being abusive to his former wife and 5+ pages dedicated to some cringey texts Cunningham sent?

McArthur is right. There is no reason for Democrats to take the high road when it comes to Tillis.
Like someone said a few days ago regarding SCOTUS, hardball is bad. One sided hardball is even worse.

Because Democrats are masochists and love the state of paranoia.

Plus, the biggest conflict in the Presidential race is "Will Biden get closer to 350 or 400 electoral votes?". We just can't have that level of COMPLACENCY™

McArthur is right. There is no reason for Democrats to take the high road when it comes to Tillis.
Like someone said a few days ago regarding SCOTUS, hardball is bad. One sided hardball is even worse.

It's pretty clear that the Tillis campaign is teaming up with some far-right groups to push this story, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was some bribery involved.  It's pretty strange to read these texts this woman sent Cunningham -- she's clearly more into him than he is into her -- and now she's out there trying to destroy his life and bragging about having naked pictures of him and stuff.  Why is she talking to these far-right outlets?

The woman says that the Tillis campaign has had naked pictures of Cunningham for quite a while.  So they've known about this story and been orchestrating it for however long that is -- possibly months.  And look at how it's unfolded.  Extremely dirty.

F--k his ass up.  I want to see Cunningham hit him with that at the debate.  "Domestic violence, adultery, emotional abuse, or sexual assault.  One of those four things, Thom.  Which was it?"  Let's just f--king go.  This race is too important to take the high ground while the Tillis campaigning orchestrating this elaborate assault on Cunningham.

Also the Cunningham campaign should totally use the Tillis divorce allegations against him.  Give voters a reason to say "both guys are bad" or "both sides are the same" even if the reality is that one is an order of magnitude worse than the other.  Especially if the Tillis explanation requires a lot of preordained knowledge about divorce settlement laws.  Voters won't want to listen to the details.  They'll just want to set their brains to "Tillis did something bad to his wife, Cunningham did something bad to his wife, they are both awful, it cancels out."

This is what the right does to us all the damn time.  This is how they won the 2016 presidential election and how they continue to win races.  Fight them with their own weapons.

I don't like to speculate like this too much, but to me it does sort of seem like something weird is up, between Todd giving this out to a bunch of right-wing outlets, and her statements like "He knows the fate of his career is in my hands". That would be hilarious if somehow this whole scandal flipped around onto Tillis

Here's a picture of the first filing (the one that was dismissed after no action was after for over a year). It's interesting that they got married on Feb. 2, 1979 and had already "separated" by August 1979 (the first divorce filing was filed on Aug. 30 and claimed separation was on Aug. 12). Honestly it might just be a "young and stupid" type of situation where they impulsively got married and that the language under debate was included simply because it was what you needed in order to get a divorce approved at the time. Tillis was only 18 when the marriage occurred, after all. The second filing did not include the "cruel and inhuman treatment" language.

This is the time for Heath Shuler to enter the race and save Democrats from this nonsense.

Shuler is a pro-life Democrat, but it is the South.

He'd pull in more Black men than Cal
