If my wife was sexting other men, I (and most other people) would consider it cheating.

We aren't in the Dark Ages and we don't have a thought police. If some tame sexting is considered cheating then what's next? Will seeing a beautiful woman on the street and having sexual thoughts about her be considered cheating too?

I don't think it's important regarding the election or his Senate career, but what Cunningham did is obviously cheating. What are you talking about?

I'm reading some comments online saying the woman he sexted is the wife of an enlisted (sergeant) vet and since Cunningham is an officer (lieutenant colonel) this could be a particular problem for Cunningham under military discipline/rules. But I have no idea. I assume Cunningham is very very very lucky this man appears to be a vet as opposed to someone currently enlisted.

Adultery is punishable under the UCMJ, and he could easily lose his commission over it. The fact that the woman is the wife of a veteran makes no difference, apart from the highly discretionary nature of punishments in the military. Meaning, his commander might let it go if it was with a civilian, but not with a fellow servicemember's wife.

That said, I find it highly unlikely that this qualifies as adultery under the UCMJ, though it's been a while since I've read it. My guess is that the voters punish him, but the military does not.
