If nothing happens to Trump over this and it turns out that this is OK, the Democrats pretty much have to do this to compete. If they don't have to play by our rules, we are forced to play by theirs.

Wrong again, New York Times.

What the Democrats did was nothing like what the Republicans did. The Republicans colluded with Russia. The Democrats didn't.
