Palin was the modern day version of Quayle. Not necessarily unqualified for the job but just a total idiot in how they carried themselves. She was an absolutely horrendous pick even then.

Before McCain picked her, no one (even in Alaska) knew how much of a moron Palin was. In the very first days, she was thought to be a surprising but strong choice.

That quickly unraveled.

She was truly a harbinger of Trump. Not only was she a moron but also had the same emotional immaturity: holding grudges for real or perceived slights, taking any kind of criticism as a personal attack, and an inability to stay on message for more that two seconds.

Absolutely, Palin in 2008 is a direct like to Trump in 2016 and on. Very similar type of thinking. Biden needs to be careful with his pick but Bass seems unlikely at this point. Still, letting the far left's cat out of the bag would be a mistake.

Quote
Former Vice President Joe Biden is closing in on a final decision on his choice of a running mate, four sources familiar with the matter told NBC News, as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee huddled with family at his home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, this weekend.

The sources said Biden could announce a final decision by the middle of next week or sooner and stressed that while he has blown past several self-imposed deadlines, his only real deadline is the Democratic National Convention, which begins Aug. 17.

At this point, I'd bet Whitmer is more in contention than Rice is (I wonder how in contention she really was, like Bass).

I feel like Harris, Whitmer, and Duckworth are more "in contention" than Rice or Bass ever really were.

Sarah Palin had more experience. Please.

For someone who feels the need to fight back whenever Harris gets criticized, you certainly love to take the piss out of everyone else in the running.

Almost like you're biased or something

https://prospect.org/politics/susan-rice-has-a-disclosure-problem/

Not a good look for Rice here, Trump would feast on it.

At 44 years old, Rice was the wealthiest person in the entire Obama Cabinet upon her appointment in 2009. Her net worth clocked in between $23.5 million and $43.5 million, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. That made her richer even than Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Rice is almost certainly richer now than she was in 2009, though we don’t know where that wealth is coming from. But if that money was enough to functionally disqualify her from secretary of state in 2012, it should certainly have an impact upon deciding her fitness for a higher role.

“We don’t know where that wealth is coming from” is good for Trump. Let’s him get back to his 2016 stride.

I told y'all he'll announce end of next week so the media cycle is still looking at the VP as a shiny object so she has momentum going into the convention.

He could leave it up to the convention delegates. Or the electoral college.

At this point, I'd be relieved with anyone just because its not Rice.

If Biden picks Harris after all of this, he’ll prove once and for all his infuriatingly slow manner of announcing what most people thought he was gonna do anyway. See: running in the first place.

So, combining the Whitmer news with the “Biden is currently huddling with family to make a final decision” news, the following propositions seem likely:

1) If Biden is now huddling with those closest with him to make a final decision, then presumably the interviews are over, and he’s not going to be interviewing any more candidates before he decides.

2) Just a few days ago, the reporting was that it wasn’t even clear that he’d be interviewing anyone in person (because of coronavirus concerns).  Since he apparently did interview Whitmer in person though, then presumably he *did* decide to do in person interview with at least a few finalists, out of which Whitmer was one, but presumably there were at least a couple of others.

3) Seems like the Whitmer leak came in part because of flight info, but (as I was saying a few days ago) most of the reported short listers are already in DC (Susan Rice + all the members of Congress), and they could just drive to Delaware from DC, which I assume could be done without attracting as much attention as a flight, and so probably less likely to leak.  OTOH, Grisham and Bottoms are also far enough away that they’d have to fly, so maybe the fact that we haven’t heard about them interviewing means that they didn’t make the final cut?  (Which wouldn’t be a surprise, but I thought I’d mention it nonetheless.)

4) Since Biden was willing to meet with VP finalists in person despite coronavirus, I assume that also means that he’ll be willing to do a joint appearance with the VP selection once announced (in some outdoor venue where they’re 6 feet apart).  If so, then the chances seem high that the decision on who he picked will leak out before he makes an official announcement, just like virtually all recent VP picks have leaked out early in these cases where the announcement is made in person.
