I can't find an article, but someone from Axios was on MSNBC this morning saying the final two were down to Harris and Rice.

Rice threw shade at Harris yesterday saying in an interview that she has no personal ambitions. Which I actually found a very tasteless and unseemly thing to do.

Then she should withdraw her name from consideration. 🙄

Why the Biden campaign would intentionally hand the Republicans a gift and relitigate the Benghazi affair is beyond me.

Her team acknowledges Republicans will trot out her early misstatements about the Benghazi attacks that were based on incomplete intelligence she'd been given, and she wants to defuse that by bringing it up herself.

Starting the Campaign on the defensive. Literally the opposite of Do No Harm. I wont even get into the Obama conspiracies... Fodder for Trump.
And you think Harris is record won’t have the same affect? Give me a break!

Unpopular Opinion Alert: No one cares about Benghazi at this point - assuming they remember it all - except folks who are going to vote for Trump no matter what.  It would be dumb not to pick Rice because of Benghazi and Republicans are bluffing when they talk about hoping Biden picks her.  Rice is a bad pick because she doesn't really bring anything to the table that will help Biden beat Trump and has no experience with electoral politics.

That's the most compelling argument against Rice, not that she has exceptionally awful policy views (she seems to be a pretty mainstream Democrat re: policy) or that voters still care about Benghazi (no one but Trump diehards care about that and even then, I doubt they remember anything about it except as a generic buzzword/slogan like "Lock Her Up").

I'm not sure this is an issue any longer. The Trump Admin did nothing about reports of Russian bounties on men and women in uniform. My issues with Rice is her lack of campaign experience. I also don't know much about her domestic policies. I assume they're similar to Biden himself. That said, she would be a better pick than Karen Bass and more qualified than Abrams and KLB, but not better than Harris, Warren or MLG.

I think you seriously underestimate the power that word has. I'm not saying it's right, but it does. Especially among low-information voters and people who aren't as tuned in. The bottom line is that it presents a risk, and Biden needs to take as little risks as possible.

However, Benghazi just underscores the other issues with Rice. Most notably that she doesn't have any elected experience, and hasn't been through that ringer. Harris is battle tested, especially recently.

Harris's record was literally just litigated in the last year. Not to mention, it may have harmed her in a primary a bit, but in a general election, there's no way Trump can say Biden/Harris is 'weak on crime' and then somehow say she was a tough prosecutor.

Yeah, Rice makes no sense.

POLITICO: ‘She is absolutely our No. 1 draft pick’: GOP pines for Rice as Biden VP'

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/08/05/republicans-susan-rice-vice-president-391480

She doesn't make sense in the "do no harm" aspect

Harris or Rice is elitism at its finest. Neither will help win s*** in the Senate but I guess some lobbyists will be very happy. Dems going in this direction should give the GOP a large opening once they get past Trump.

No VP pick was going to help with the Senate. Stop being stupid.

Warren, Harris or Bass whom ti chose from. Rice wont be picked, she would destroy Gideon's chances in ME, which isnt a sure thing due to ME 2. Rice was supposed to run for Senate in ME

She lives in DC. She has ties to Maine which is why she considered the raise briefly. But her selection would have nothing to do with the Senate race there. That’s a total non sequitur

I guess Sally Yates is testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee right now.  I'm not watching it, so I don't know for sure, but Harris is on the Judiciary Committee, and I assume she's there, and so is not being interviewed by Biden right now.  Tongue

I'd assume that all of the veep shortlisters in Congress are in DC this week, and since DC isn't far from Delaware, they could sneak away to be interviewed without it being noticed.

Not saying it's 100% going to be Harris, but I'm not sure why you keep discounting the high possibility that it's going to be her.

Harris 49.0%

This "Harris vs Rice" thing has to be some 4D chess designed to push people into supporting Harris (who in such a scenario would have been Biden's choice all along most likely). If you can get somebody like me to support Harris over the alternative...

All these polls still seem to be based on name recognition.

Agreed. Still makes me think that all of these possible other "picks" have all been red herrings all along.

The energy shifting towards Kamala feels very palpable. I can’t see some of these other people being picked but stranger things.....

Screw that let's just have a VP Primary in tandem with the real primary.
