Some of y'all are overestimating the importance/appeal of a military background in 2020.

Oh yes of course. Trump, a draft-dodger and Pence, someone who who's on record as opposing women in the military, are going to easily attack a disabled female veteran. That will absolutely not piss off anyone at all.

We're talking about Republicans. Yes, they will attack her regardless of being disabled. And no Republicans and their voters do not care. It will be the same people as always like the Lincoln Project and maybe Bolton complaining. Don't look for anybody like Crenshaw or Hawthorne to speak about anything.

Literally every time I go on Facebook I've got the Biden campaign asking me "dO u LiKe tHiS wOmAn fOr vP??" It's so ing obvious what they're planning that it's actually infuriating me that it's taking this long for like 5 possible candidates

Like ads or surveys?

Surveys. And it's been the same 4 or 5 damn people for MONTHS now. I'm impatient not due to timing but because Biden has been operating on a shortlist and not vetting the entire Democratic Party. -which takes a long time. It doesn't take 2 or 3 months to choose between like 4 friggin people.

He literally attacked the parents of a dead vet. And got elected shortly after. NOTHING is beneath this man.

This is why Trump wanted to run against Bernie. Remember how he kept praising Sanders and blowing him up during the primaries back in January and February, while bashing the "Democratic establishment" represented by Biden? In retrospect it's because he knew he could easily label Sanders as extremist and use things like his position on Cuba against him.

Interesting that today though, Trump seems to favor Harris. He says good things about her, while bashing alternatives like Warren.
Warren's an easy target. DNA test, "far left" policy positions , sabotaging Bernie by staying in, etc. It would be much harder and quite frankly weird for him to attack Harris from the left on CJ issues and the like.

Interesting that in that latest YouGov poll, 37% think Harris will be the VP nominee but only 25% want her.

Only 18% think Warren will be VP nominee but 22% want her.

The only thing that matters is who people want. Who they think it will be is completely irrelevant.

It's pretty clear Biden likes a lot of people and is genuinely undecided, I really don't think he'll decide until last minute.

If you look at it from a strategy standpoint, Tammy Duckworth is a very interesting pick. Because they attack the military, it goes against the message of kneeling during the anthem being about the troops. If they attack her for not being a black woman, then it goes against the GOP strategy of All Lives Matter. She's also disabled, and her biggest gaffe is that she said listen to people who may want to take down a statue of one of our slave-owning government officials during the Revolution. Duckworth could lay low, and would she even want to run as President in 2024?

Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden has extended his vice-presidential search by as much as two weeks, intensifying the jockeying and lobbying between allies of the women who hope to join his White House. Even some longtime Biden allies worry the process has become “messier than it should be,” pitting women, especially Black women, against one another.

Jesus Christ..... It's literally at the point where qualification and content of character means sh**t and it's "Answer the following questions 1. Are you male? 2. Are you white? If you have answered no to both YOU could be Joe Biden's running mate!"

I'm wondering if the delay is purely tactical.

The moment he announces a running mate, that will take the focus off Trump's ongoing trainwreck, and after a very brief honeymoon the media will transition to coverage of all Trump and his Republicans' attacks on Biden's VP. Why give them any more time for that? He doesn't need a bounce or more airtime, he (and his VP) just need to remain a credible alternative to a president who is the political equivalent of polonium.

Announce right before the convention, ride the buzz to get free publicity for what will likely be a well-run if unorthodox convention (for even more publicity), and then Trump's GOP scum only get four days of attacks before they get their own ill-planned convention.

I think he would rather announce after a deal gets done between the HEALS vs. HEROES Act, it would look a little tone-deaf if he announced this week. August 7th is the date to get something meaningful done.

Head-to-head DFP/YouGov poll: 53% Warren/47% Harris, with Warren also continuing to poll much better with people who aren't already "strongly for Biden:"

https://www.dataforprogress.org/memos/warren-is-the-vp-choice-for-key-voters

We know the pressure Biden is facing from interest groups for all candidates, but if this polling (which has been consistent through the summer) is what Biden is also seeing in his own polling numbers, then Warren has more of an edge than pundits are giving her. If Biden is indeed hesitant on Harris (which seems to be the case based on his delayed timeline), then the numbers strongly favor Warren over anybody else.

The biggest question mark would be if Biden goes with Rice, who he clearly trusts immensely but who wouldn't poll as well because she's never run for office while Warren & Harris have a lot of name recognition from the primaries.

I'm still prepared to be disappointed (though not really because Kamala is still a really good choice, even if she's not my personal #1), but Warren's background remains suited for the problems Biden is gonna face in his 1st term & the polls still give Warren an edge over the perceived front-runner.

Optics, optics, optics. Polling be damed, the vp to the first black president will not pass over qualified black women in favour of a 70 year old white woman. There will be backlash

I mean, there's been Harris hype for weeks now so it's kinda surprising that she's still behind Warren at this point. For all the talk of "oMg 2 70+ yEaR oLdS iS uNfAtHoMaBlE," it seems that plenty of people still want it. There'll be some grumbling on Twitter, sure, but that's not gonna impact Nov. 3rd in any tangible way.

I have said before that the biggest danger of a Biden/Warren ticket is that it might give traction to the Republican talking point that Biden will be an impotent figurehead and that Warren and the left-wing faction of the party will be the ones calling the shots.

Curious what your thoughts would be if Tammy Duckworth is chosen.
