McSally was just a meh candidate in 2018, but, like Ernst, has really, really plunged this cycle.

Deucy really should have just appointed himself to the Senate. He might have actually won.

The goal was probably to appoint somebody he'd know would lose so he could run himself in 2022.

But then Ducey destroyed his own chances with his response to COVID.

I bet he's kicking himself for not appointing himself now.

To be fair, one can't really predict something (let alone a global pandemic) that could come along & destroy your governing reputation.

In any event, though, no Governor should ever regret not appointing themselves to a Senate seat, since the precedent for doing so would dictate that the inevitable result when they have to run again is near-certain defeat.

The GOP is going to be in such a state by 2022 that he'd lose the primary - probably to McSally or Ward or whoever's next on the Crazy Conveyor Belt.

Maybe Ward but no way they give McSally a 3rd chance. They didn't even give Arpaio a 2nd chance(!), & a proven loser is a proven loser.

I refuse to believe Martha McSally is this bad at politics. She's clearly an undercover Democrat.

Is this really it? The most prominent AZ Republicans tend to be weak statewide candidates, but there are still plenty of AZ Republicans who could be much more popular than McSally if they could be persuaded to run and don't seem to have categorically ruled out bids.

I've mentioned former Governor Jan Brewer who was actually a meaningfully moderate Republican on certain issues as opposed to a "moderate [polite, but very right wing] Republican" (she supported Medicaid expansion to protect rural hospitals!). Even if one rules her out, all of the current row officers besides Ducey would also probably be doing better (although there is the issue of whether any would have been willing to accept the Senate appointment). Surely, some recent former row officers/Representatives would also have been better bets, although a few of those lost their last primaries.

That, or Ducey is paying her very well.

Didn't McSally's own campaign partially blame the Kavanaugh confirmation for her 2018 loss?

I feel like her political skills have really dropped off a cliff since she got appointed to this seat. Though maybe she was never actually that strong and just coasted by on her bio. Or the first name is just cursed.

She's so desperate and it's so obvious.

Does anyone else remember that moment in the 2018 debate where McSally accused Sinema of treason for some comments she made way back when about Americans joining the Taliban? It was supposed to come off as this big 'gotcha' moment but it just ended up reeking of desperation.

THE SHADE

WOW. I'm not surprised Sinema is voting for Kelly, but initially she said she wouldn't endorse and that AZ would decide what was best.
