I agree with ElectionsGuy entirely - no on McSally, that’s a guaranteed loser.

If Ducey is smart he won't nominate McSally. That'll be a smack in the face to voters, but then again, so is appointing someone for 2 years that the people have no say in so...

who else could he appoint besides her and Kimberly Yee

AZ GOP bench is absolutely garbage. And the voters didn't say no to Mcsally but more yes for Sinema.

Garbage bench? LMAO. I will remind Atlas that AZ is still a pink state, McSally just ran as a 2004 neocon and wasted all the opportunities afforded her to attack Sinema.

I can't think of a single candidate who will run besides Kimberly Yee that could win a GE against stanton, kirkpatrick ,or O hallerhan, or Grant Woods.

Kyl was only a fill in for the Kavanaugh confirmation: they knew Collins would vote for him, not Murkowski, so they needed an extra vote.  McCain's death gave the GOP the 50th vote to confirm Kavanaugh. Now, they want another GOPer so it won't be an open seat come 2020.

It would be advisable for Ducey to choose someone who is competent and qualified, but not controversial. That would rule out Arizona's congressional delegation (including McSally, who is still a Representative until January 3), and it would also rule out the McCains (on account of the controversy attached to them). If McSally were to be appointed, I think she would be in a precarious position in 2020. And it wouldn't be right to appoint her anyways, given how she just lost to Sinema.

Kyl retiring on December 31st means that whoever is appointed will be senior senator over Krysten Sinema. That's really a d!ck move by Kyl.

This make it even worse. McSally just lost and now she has a good chance of becoming senior Senator. SMH.

Gallego would probably be too progressive for Arizona. Someone more moderate like Greg Stanton would do better.

Because it would be nice if at least one AZ Senator wasn't a shameless right-wing shill.

Ideology hasn’t had a single ounce of effect on general elections so far, I doubt it starts to have one now Roll Eyes

I actually hope ducey appoints mcsally. The attack ads write themselves for a situation like this. We look forward to defeating her again.

The optics of this certainly look bad for McSally, who I assume will probably low and not try to build a national/controversial profile as she is potentially looking at grueling Senate campaigns in a likely battleground state in both 2020 and 2022. She was a bad campaigner and will likely have a tougher time with a Senate voting record under her belt.

Also possible, if not likely, that she draws a primary challenge from the right, be it from Ward or someone else.

And also makes McSally Arizona's first female U.S. Senator rather than Sinema, who was duly elected as such.

And this also helps arizona by helping it keep seniority in the senate. I would absolutely support this move if i lived in arizona.

I would not. Arizona just elected Kyrsten Sinema NOT Martha McSally.

Grant Woods would be a good candidate for AZ, being a recent Republican.
