Democrats should run someone new.  He hasn't been involved in state politics there since 2006.  Ernst would crush him.

Wow, bringing an old popular senator or governor to run against the incumbent or for an open seat? That always works out well for the dems!!!

Presumably he'll do some polling before he jumps in and sees if he'll do better than the others. At least he'd be running in a swing state in a Dem-friendly year, most likely.

This. Would be funny if Mike Beebe also runs for senate in Arkansas, lol. But Vilsack has higher chances as Iowa is far less red.

Tbh feingold and bredesen didn't do that badly. BredI got screws by lean of the year and feingold got screwed by people who thought clinton was a lock for president so they went r downballot.

Can’t wait until Ernst wins this "Toss-up race in elastic swing state IA" by more than "deep/inelastic red state incumbents" Daines, Sullivan, Perdue, Cornyn, Tillis, and McSally.

I don't think Beebe will. After seeing what happened to Bredesen just last month, I would imagine that he would wisely stay out. Cotton will win re-election by at least twenty points in 2020.

He probably is waiting on Biden, Ernst will go down if Biden is the nominee and Vilsack runs

The race moves from Lean R to Lean D if he runs.

Meh, I wouldn't hand him the nomination, but he could be a good candidate. He's only been out of public office for a couple years, and he'd probably have good name recognition and fund-raising skills. And he'd be fairly progressive for a senator from Iowa.

Bayh Bayh to Iowa if this happens.

I hope Hubbell decides to primary if this is the case.

Hubbell? Maybe he’d do better than Vilsack, but the guy couldn’t even beat Reynolds in a massive Democratic wave year. Most people thought that race was easily winnable for Democrats.

Vilsack was in the Obama cabinet and close to Biden. With Biden or an established candidate like Booker and Tim Ryan (who wants out of House due to GOP gerrymandering) will beat Joni Ernst
