On March 30, 1981, Ronald Reagan is shot and killed by John Hinkley Jr., and Vice-President George Bush is sworn in as president. How does the 1984 election go?

Bush wins like Reagan did. It would be like Johnson V Goldwater 20 years before, a murdered President sucessor beating a radical opponent.
Who would have been Bush`s VP in 1981?
Of course as Bush had taken so early in the adminstration then he could only fight the 1984 election and couldnt run for re-election in 1988. What happens then?

I'm not sure that Bush would have been as strong as Reagan in 1984, that said I think he would have beaten Mondale by a larger margin than he beat Dukakis however i think that Mondale would have done a little better than he did in reality...

As for VPs there’s Alexander Haig, Jack Kemp, John Heinz, Bob Dole... I think Kemp could be a likely choice or perhaps Haig... but I think Heinz would have made a strong run in 1988 and if nominated would have won otherwise Haig or Dole would have got the nomination and lost had there been a strong Democratic candidate such as Gore or Bentsen or even Gephardt or Harkin... had Dukakis still been nominated then Haig or Dole might well have won… while Kemp could have been in with a good chance at winning having been VP for seven years under Bush…
