https://news.vice.com/en_us/article/mbyp7a/a-jail-working-with-ice-held-a-us-citizen-for-deportation-and-mocked-him-with-the-fresh-prince-theme

[quote]
A Florida man who tried to turn himself in to authorities when he tested positive for marijuana use, in violation of his probation agreement, instead found himself ensnared by ICE and facing imminent deportation.

“Mr. Brown renewed his pleas for the Sheriff to release him because he was a U.S. citizen,” the complaint states. “The Sheriff’s officers mocked him. After Mr. Brown told them he was born in Philadelphia, one of the guards sang him the theme song to the 1990s sicom “Fresh Prince of Bel Air”,

‘He signed all documents by writing “U.S. Citizen” after his name,” the complaint states. “Jail staff again mocked him. One of them told Mr. Brown “Yeah, whatever, mon, everything’s gonna be alright” in a Jamaican accent.”

This is just ridiculous. No wonder it happened in Florida.

There is something very very wrong with this country.

Conservative thinking is "if you're brown you get deported, if you're black you can't own a gun or have the same rights as me".

"Almost" deported, as in "not deported".

What exactly is the story here? A cop made a racially insensitive joke to a parole violating felon?

As far as pro-migrant propaganda goes, this is especially weak.

This isn't pro-migrant propaganda. A citizen was almost deported. It doesn't matter if he's a "parole violating felon", an American citizen was almost deported, and was mocked by law enforcement when he stated multiple times that he was a citizen.

Now, obviously this was an unfortunate situation that should never have happened (the illegal immigrant in the ICE database did not even come close to matching the inmate), and the behavior of the guards involved was highly unprofessional, but it would not be appropriate for the local sheriff's dept to make a determination on the immigration status of an individual they are temporarily detaining
for transfer to federal authorities. The appropriate course of action would've been for the local sheriff's dept to tell the inmate that he will get a chance to prove his identity to ICE when they pick him up from his temporary hold, but the concept of temporary holds for transfers between law enforcement department is sound.

Again, "almost deported" means "not deported". There is no story here. The level of Orwellian language the mainstream left is engaging in is terrifying.

The story here is that ICE detainers should be taken with a grain of salt, are certainly not equivalent to arrest warrants, and are probably not a constitutional basis for prolonging an inmate’s detention.

I don’t think the “C” in citizen is supposed to be capitalized.

FLORIDA! Of f***ing course! DeSantis fits this state like a glove-a glove that was just used by a meth addict to strangle an alligator that ate his last batch.

Yeah, while I lean right a lot - I think everyone should be able to have guns, especially law-abiding POCs. And you should only get deported if it's proven you're here illegally and not in-process for citizenship.

Wow, as somebody who has defended you in the past, I’ll take this as an indicator to never assume you’re actually here to argue in good faith again.
