Hello everyone! Smiley

I'm still away and only semi-active because of Wilma (and still on this awful palm pilot keyboard) but I have come to make an announcement.

Recently, I supported Defarge for Vice President, and he was elected, along with his running mate Joe Republic, to serve in that position.  He will do well, but his election leaves a vacancy in the Senate.

I have moved to New York and decided that I will run for Senate! :

Every day, I will focus on my plans for one issue, and how I will handle this issue in the Senate

I believe that I can provide leadership in the Senate.  I know I am not from the area I will represent, but Ihave family there, and I connect to the area well.  I am sure that I will be able to represent you all as well as you deserve!

Thank you and I'd be honored to have your support! SmileySmiley:

I urge all members of the Northeast region NOT to vote for Ben Meyers, who is simply trying to carpetbag in his way into our regional Senate seat. I urge Lt. Gov. Reese to retract his endorsement of Mr. Meyers.

FREE TRADE
The first Issue of the Day that I will be discussing with you is free trade.  Let me begin by saying that free trade is a noble idea, and I support it in theory.  However, there are consequences, as with everything.  Free trade, when left unregulated, is a danger to American jobs.  I was an opponent of both NAFTA and CAFTA because there were loopholes which would allow for companies which shifted jobs elsewhere to make more money.  I believe that companies who do that should be punished, not rewarded.  Until there is an incentive to keep jobs here at home, I will not support free trade.  As Senator, I will introduce legislation to do just this, and so businesses can still benefit from free trade, and the American people will not be hurt.

Thank you. Smiley

WAR IN IRAQ
I will be doing two issues of the day today, since I missed yesterday. Smiley

The first of these is the War in Iraq.

When we were first planning on invading Iraq, I sadly admit that I supported the idea.  I felt that Saddam Hussein was a threat to the safety and security of Atlasian citizens.  However, the evidence supporting that was soon proven wrong.  Since that time, I have stood against the war.  I believe that once we are proven wrong, we should correct our mistakes.

The War in Iraq was a mistake.  The two thousand soldiers that have passed away were two thousand too many.  However, the job we started must be completed, as there are even worse consequences if we leave Iraq now.  We must work together with the world community, even to nations with which we do not neccesarily maintan friendly relations such as France or Germany, and seek international assistance in the reconstruction process.

As Senator, I will propose legislation that will help reduce the burden on Atlasia, which bears the vast majority of the costs and casualties.

Thank you. Smiley

Next issue coming soon.

MY ACTIVITY
I feel that this should be the issue of the day, since quite a few people are questioning it.

My tenure as Secretary of Defense was a failure.  I will not seek any justification for it nor search for any reason for it.  I was completely inactive during the whole thing, did not have one accomplishment and did not perform the duties of the office.

I won't try to weasel my way out by spinning this.  All I can say is that I promise to all Atlasians that it will not happen again in the future.  If I am not able to serve in a position, I promise to all Atlasians that I will promptly resign from that position.  For the District 1 Senate race, I will have plently of time for that position.  I have been actively campaigning and will actively represent District 1 in the Senate.

Thank you. Smiley

Also, why have you changed your position first supporting NAFTA and CAFTA and now coming out against them?

I don't support NAFTA and CAFTA, I just support free trade in theory, just not in application.  NAFTA and CAFTA, as I said, allow for the American people to be hurt by free trade.  I support government regulation in order to minimize the loss of jobs here at home.

When you previously ran for Senate in your real district, you stated in a PNN interview that you supported both NAFTA and CAFTA...You are ducking my question about carpetbagging Mr. Meyers.

...if jobs could be kept at home, which I presume he feels is not possible under NAFTA and CAFTA.

You seem to be having difficulty understanding the semantics of a conditional statement.
