Pederson has already stated that he is spending $15 Million of his own money on this campaign and no more.

When did he say that?

From what I read, he was only going to spend $1 million or so of his own money.
It was stated on his website a few months ago.

If Pederson is spending $15 million, this race will be in play.  Arizona is a swing state that is undergoing the sort of demographics shift that will increase Democratic strength.

Jon Kyl has the most conservative voting record in the entire U.S Senate according to C.Q. If Bush stays a political albatross in 2006, Kyl will be vulnerable.

If Pederson spends 5 mil it will be very very close.  MoE either way.

You are operating under the misimpression that expenditures equals votes.

While adequate funding is of course necessary, beyond such minimums, money has limited utility in obtaining votes.

Thanks for your response! Money doesn't "buy" votes, but it allows an unknown candidate to air his message.

Pederson is similar to Maria Cantwell. Slade Gorton was a mildly popular GOP Senator in a swing state who had won an easy race six years ago. Cantwell proceeded to spend roughly $11 million in mostly TV ads to get her message out to voters. Her strategy of focusing on urban areas for votes combined with heavy spending propelled her to a 2,000 vote upset of an entrenched incumbent.

Don't be surprised if this is a marquee race come October '06.

One of the few things I've learnt first-hand is that money is not at all that important when it comes to getting votes.

And I don't get why the man would waste his money on it. Is he gonna get repaid in some way? I didn't think the Dems in Arizona were strong enough to deal out favours.

Yes: If he wins, he will receive an admission ticket to the U.S. Senate.

Lol, but he's must know that he isn't gonna win. But let me rephrase it then...is he going to get repaid in some political way if/when he loses the race?
