It's very possible they could both happen simultaneously in 2020. Especially if both parties make the (correct) decision to not bother targeting the other.

I think both will happen in 2020 (assuming it's close, as I think it will be).

you mean Missouri. Indiana was always a republican state but Obama won it for the first time in 40 years in 08

I don't see both happening together... yet. If Trump loses by a lot, I can see D+10 in Virginia with R+6 in Ohio, or if Trump wins decisively, I can see R+12 in Ohio and D+6 in Virginia. Ohio is definitely the more likely one at this point to go into double-digit territory. Virginia is only getting more and more Democratic at a consistent yet stubborn pace. I think it'll be high single digits for a while.

If the 2020 Dem nominee is a more moderate establishment dude, he or she could win VA 54-44%. I don't see OH swinging further right than 2016 in the next 2-3 elections.

That's actually a really good question ... I feel like both would happen in sort of "opposite" election results, but I'll actually vote that VA +10 is more likely to happen first.

It's kind of plausible they both happen in 2020, but I believe VA would vote by such a margin first, albeit narrowly.
