Yeah, with these margins he definitely would've, even if by a reduced margin.

At least Gretchen Whitmer is pretty solid, it'd be pretty frustrating if he lost the primary to a mediocre or Cuomo-esque Democrat.

Yes, though it would be closer.

Whitmer is fantastic though, so I can’t be upset in the least. Hopefully, El-Sayed runs for something soon.

Yes. But I think he does worse than Stabenow rather than better.

Yes, his campaign positions and style would have resonated with working-class voters much stronger. In addition, unlike the current governor-elect, he probably would not have appointed a health insurance company executive to his transition team.

Yes, a bit closer, but would have won. Maybe 51-46%.

Although I was for Whitmer early on, she should have picked him as running mate.

I'm curious to see which state elects the first Muslim governor or senator.

His name and religion certainly would not have though.

Many progressives learned literally nothing from 2016-2018.

No and it wouldn’t have been close. His name would be a big strike against him and his policy positions would’ve buried him with left leaning WASPs in Oakland.

I think the Upper Midwest whiplash against the GOP would have saved him, but he would have won by the skin of his teeth.

His nomination might have caused a negative coattail backlash against Stabenow, though, and James might have made it a real race, causing the Dems to have to spend money in Michigan as well.

It would've been close, but I think he would've eked it out by a couple points. 2018 taught us that fundamentals matter much more than candidate quality these days.
