While we all want China to treat their people better, you can't conduct foreign policy idealistically without regard for what's best for your nation. Confrontation with China is not in America's best interests.

While we all want China to treat their people better, you can't conduct foreign policy idealistically without regard for what's best for your nation. Confrontation with China is not in America's best interests.

Agreed.  China needs to fend for rights itself, but it can greatly benefit us if we engage in free trade with them.

So I vote No.

Also agreed.  It's the individual consumer which will make the greatest impact on China.  I remember back in the 90s, when I stopped sailing and went back to school, I worked at Staples for a year.  People would come in and specifically look for "Made in China" on the boxes.  If it was there, the person would not buy it.

No - I say the more exposure they have to us the better. Countries that we refuse to trade with often become insulated and xenophobic like North Korea, and that only reinforces their poor human rights policies. The more educated and well off the people of China become the more likely their human rights situation will improve, but that will only happen if their economy becomes one that allows for such growth.
