GOP politicians must start sagging their pants, smoke weed, and shop at Whole Foods.

They must broaden their appeal beyond "angry white men."

The white ethnics bronz obsesses over. If the dems go socially very far left and the GOP runs on "muh snowflakes", they might swing over

Funnily enough a segment of old school Catholic Poles/Italians/Irish/etc are the only (sub)urban group I can see a Trumpian GOP make any inroads with as of right now.

The path of least resistance is still maxing out middle America white rurals with no college degree though.

The easy answer would be to start running pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro-gun control candidates. There are some obvious problems with that, though- they'd imperil their edge among rurals, and it might not work anyway. Oregon's gubernatorial race provides a classic example. Republican Knute Buehler embraced liberal social positions, running against an unpopular incumbent, and still got annihilated in Portland, the Portland 'burbs, Eugene, and Corvallis while underperforming in his base around Bend. Partisanship is too ingrained for even a "moderate" Republican to stand any chance in these places, especially since most urbans are left-wing across the board- being pro-choice etc. is not going to win them over.

1. Fix the brand. Start working with minority community leaders to address urban problems in a way that doesn't cast blame on the victims. Re-embrace internationalism. Fix immigration policy so currently undocumented workers can be here legally.

2. Make the case that Democratic policy has led to income inequality, gentrification, and loss of opportunity in urban areas, and come up with practical solutions. Affordable housing, job opportunities, education, STEM training. LISTEN to community leaders.

3. Crime and violence IS a big issue on the minds of urban minorities. If the GOP can find a way to fix the criminal justice system, eliminate the color disparity in mass incarceration, AND make cities safer, WITHOUT blaming the victims or veering into racist rhetoric, that would be huge.

4. Give up the silly anti-tax temper-tantrum they've been throwing since 1994. Emphasize smart government to foster economic growth in the areas that need it the most.

5. Somehow do all this without pushing what's left of their suburban support to the Democrats.
