It's a perfectly valid point that many politicians (especially those running without being in public office) enter public service with debt- a fair few young MPs started off with 5-10K from having to quit their jobs for three months to campaign.

It's fine if you have a wealthy partner, your own business or a job where they let you go on paid leave, but it's actually a big reason why a lot of normal people don't enter politics- it costs a sh**t ton of money to quit your job and spend 10 months living in a van.
