New Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke recruited Paul Krugman to Princeton in 2000:

"In 2000, as chairman of Princeton's economic department, he hired star economist Paul Krugman, now a vociferous Bush critic, from Massachusetts Institute of Technology."

 I doubt it.  Bush isn't appointing Krugman, but Bernanke.

It is possible that Bernanke believes a proper education presents all viewpoints.

As a Department Chair, itshis job to make sure that he does what is in the Department's interest. Hiring big name profs certainly is in the Department's interest.
