Shout me down if i'm not allowed to do this but, now the elections are over, I've decided to enter the world of Atlasian politics and I realise that there may be constitutional bars on what i'm proposing (due to re-regestering a short while ago) But it seems that the personal loyalties and friendships often transcend party politics and on such a close-knit forum as this someone without links or ties to parties or people could be of benefit.

I do not know if I can establish a party, so a caucus is a first step. If I can't lead it, I hope someone here will.

So may I introduce Smiley

Details are still sketchy, but I hope to create a grouping that has a different style of organisation as well as a distinct platform.

Platform: Centrist Libertarian

We believe

In keeping the government of Atlasia small.

Quality not Quantity when it comes to legislation, the legislation process has to be streamlined.

Referenda for Atlasia; in order to overturn or reaffirm bills pushed through due to 'bloc' voting, not genuine popular support.

Support for Abortion and Gay Civil Unions in principle, but we hope to make these issues less political and moral and  instead make them issues of conscience. They should not be the main reasons for or against joining a platform or party.

Advocating for civil responsibilities as well as civil rights

As a platform we will appoint spokesmen for specific matters of policy. Appointments will be based on nomination and election.

Positions. (Provisional until ballot)

Convenor- Afleitch (until elections are held)
Deputy Convenors- Max Power and Cheezewhiz

Spokesmen.

Health, Education and Social Security- VACANT
Constitutional Affairs- VACANT
Civil Rights and Responsibilites- VACANT
Foreign Affairs and Domestic Security- Hughento

The posts can be split if need be, or more added. I think that it's beneficial to have people argue for and defend issues they find interesting.

If there is interest please say

If not I'll put the idea to rest Smiley Thanks.

Really? We don't have those on the UK. I hope i've not breached copyright! A quick re-design won't take long. Besides that's not the important thing yet Smiley

I'll join Smiley  I'd love to be part of making a party.  But, be warned, I might leave later if the platform turns out too much against my ideology.

P.S. This should be a party Smiley

This is intriguing.

Of course, the initials "CU" are already taken Tongue

In theory and practice, the organization of the Constitutional Union Party works very well - in fact it has worked better than I really ever expected.  (Thanks to Sam Spade).

The problem that caused my resignation from said party is that several of its members, including its new chairman, seem to be flirting more with Libertarianism rather than Centrism.  The Union Party platform and creed is nearly perfect in my view, I just disagree with the way it is being followed.

When the only people standing up for human rights are a few members of the CDP, you know you have a problem.   We already have too many parties dedicated to keeping government small. We need a party dedicated to keeping government size "just right" to protect civil and human rights here and abroad.  We need a party dedicated to correcting the errors of Capitalism without falling for the error of Socialism.  We need a party dedicated to uplifting people and empowering Atlasians to suceed.

I'm "kinda interested" in this, but given how libertine this forum is, I'm not even sure if I'd re-join any party with the word "libertarian" in its creed.

I would never put libertarian in the title because, as you say, it means what people want it to mean. I guess my reasoning behind the idea is to clean up the system. It seems so daunting, bills and elections flying around, that it turns alot of people off. I think parties should focuse more on issues rather than people. Hence spokespeople for individual concerns would allow more a more dynamic system, where people give their all to a particular subject.

If there is support for the establishment of a party then we should go for it, even if it means a name change. I was just testing the water really, and i'm pleased with the response

I'd probably join the party. I agree that the system is way too confusing and complicated.

That's why I'd join.  A party dedicated to making the system simpler is just what Atlasia needs.

I have one question, is this still a caucus, or can we make it a party?

Yes, you definitely can make it a party.  All you need to do is change your party in the registration thread, like this:

afleitch
Civic Union Party
Wisconsin
