I totally missed this, but it appears that Cook Political Report moved PA-10 to Tossup from Lean R:

https://cookpolitical.com/ratings/house-race-ratings/

I think this might be a touch generous this early. DePasquale is certainly a top recruit, but the district still has a Republican lean that could help Perry.

Agreed DePasquale is a dumb@ss for not running in 2018, he would have narrowly won then.

Former Irving Mayor and HUD Official Beth Van Duyne is IN for #TX24.

https://www.facebook.com/1627084453/posts/10217535516252909?sfns=mo

Good recruit in my opinion. Mayor or a large city in the district as recently at 2017, Washington connections thanks to HUD (will help with fundraising), and she appears generally inoffensive.

Honestly, she would be a better candidate than Marchant.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with carpetbagging a few miles to continue to represent their former town.

Especially in a state like Texas where most people were born outside their district or state and moved. Her fate will be intertwined with Trump's in TX-24 if she's the nominee.

Either way, she'll probably lose.

I agree, as I doubt Trumps wins TX-24 again.

I'm not sure what I think of this paragraph:"Too many Californians are fleeing our state because of the extreme socialist agenda being imposed on us by Democrat politicians, but I refuse to flee: I choose to stand and fight," DeMaio said. "In California, voters have mostly only been given two choices: socialists or ineffective cowards."
But, a non-corrupt Republican is better than a corrupt entitled asshole in my book. I also looked up how he did in 2014 in CA-52. He lost 51.6% to 48.4% to Scott Peters. In 2018 Peters was reelected 63.6% to 36.2%. Talk about a seat that's now way out of reach for Republicans (not to mention likely all of the seats in California that flipped last year).

Yeah, inoffensive and uncontroversial

Quote
But in typically low-turnout local elections, energized voters who rally around victims of religious attacks could be decisive. That happened in Irving’s 2016 city council elections, when anger over Van Duyne’s anti-Sharia campaign triggered a strong pro-Muslim showing at the polls.

Quote
After the report, Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne publicly pushed the state legislature to ensure Texas would be next to adopt an anti-sharia law. Van Duyne said she didn’t know for sure if Muslims in her part of the Dallas area were practicing sharia law, but she nevertheless declared she would “fight with every fiber of my being” to stop it.

J. D. Scholten, a Democrat who nearly toppled Representative Steve King of Iowa in a heavily Republican district in 2018, announced on Monday that he would run again for the seat in 2020. His decision sets up a possible rematch with Mr. King, whose history of racist remarks has made him a pariah among Republican leaders, though not always with voters.

lol, finally the media is starting to get it. Safe R.

Safe R, because I think King is gonna lose either in the primary or at the convention (which is typically so insider dominated that Dave Young got nominated for IA-3 despite [IIRC] coming last or second-to-last in the primary).  However, what saved King here is that the Democrats have really only seriously contested the seat twice.  Christie Vilsack was really more of a Des Moines candidate who would've had little appeal outside Ames and a few of the bluer urban precincts in the districts larger (relatively speaking) cities.

OTOH, Scholten lost because King - from what I've read - does a phenomenal job with constituent service.  He goes to all the local events (including most of the fairs), he'll try to handwrite replies to constituent letters when possible, he visits every county in the district at least once a year, and (much like Ron Paul) he's always thrown fiscal conservatism out the window when it came to pork for his district even before Trump took office.  Unlike Michele Bachmann (who acted crazy and ignored her district) or Tim Huelskamp (who sometimes opposed pork even for his own district), King has historically been good with constituent service and voters appreciated that.

However, now that he has no committee assignments and is basically a pariah even in the Republican Caucus, local business interests have no reason to put up with his racism and foot-in-mouth tendencies, so they're backing some right-wing State Senator in the primary.

Demaio raised 100k in 2 hours, 250k in 24 hours for congressional bid. The website crashed for several minutes because it had so much traffic.

He's primarying the law-breaking nincompoop that is Duncan hunter. A primary win would be both an improvement for the CA congressional delegation, as strange as that seems, and probably pushes what should be a safe R seat back closer to that leaning. Also he is preferable to Issa, who is also looking at the potential to replace Hunter.

If he was it would be safe D. As if a Republican would ever beat a scandal free Democratic incumbent in a Clinton +22 district, lol.
