I got my big break. Got a job offer at my local high school, and hell yes did I accept.

Congratulations, MD. I've known you've been pursuing this for a long while, so I'm glad you finally got the big break. Hope this is the start of a very fruitful career pursuing your passion. Great job sticking with it!

Same! Sadly could not stay to kayak, hike, bike, and talk to outdoorsy chicks. Was just accompanying my brother on his cross-country move. Tongue

First out of state travel for 2020 completed, had to update the map.

90% Blue - Residency (MI)
70 % Blue - Stayed Multiple Nights Multiple Times (WI, MO, IL, WA)
50% Blue - Stayed Multiple Nights At Least Once (CA, TN, NV)
40% Blue - Stayed At Least One Night (MT, ND, IA)
30% Blue - Have Driven Through/Set Foot In (IN, OH, KY, MN, OR)
50% Green - Airport Only (AZ)

Some pretty obvious bias towards the Midwest and the West. Ideally would add the whole Mountain West, NY, NOLA, and parts of New England.

Trips cancelled owing to COVID: New Orleans, LA; Chicago, IL; Flagstaff, AZ; and (only tentatively scheduled/penciled in) WA.

I have an update that is extremely appropriate for this forum: today I received a call and it was a poll about the September Ligurian regional election. It was the first time in my life I took part in an election poll (although last year I took part in a poll about radio usage).

I have secured a pretty good job that pays quite well and am now working on the logistics of relocating for the position, which is in the Burlington area of Vermont.

This must be like what an American leftist would have felt landing a job in Moscow forty years ago. Needless to say, congrats!

I have realized today that my city has a statue of someone who notoriously held antisemitic views which was put in place two years ago and honestly I am not bothered by it.

Hey, join the club. My high school was named for a slave trader and I'm currently organizing a grassroots movement to prevent them from renaming it.

Once I'm in a better position to finish my Bachelor's and get on a real career path, I'm thinking about changing my undergrad major from theology to psychology. My long-term goal is to eventually get into Iliff School of Theology in Denver for my pastoral/religious education, but I'm a terrible Christian in the first place and I'm probably the last person who should be giving people spiritual counseling, let alone pursue the ordination tract or become a priest.

But, I've also come to believe that clergy SHOULD have a background in psychology to more effectively counsel their patients and to their flock. Even though deep down I know I'm not qualified for any of these things...

Well, now that I’m officially moving in tomorrow, my old avatar won’t fit anymore.

Good night, sweet prince (at least until I return to SC in November)

If , or rather IF, as it's a rather big if, the Republicans regain some sanity post-Trump, I could return to being I-SC. But I don't think that even if Trump loses, the Republicans would regain sanity quickly, especially around here, so I'm D-SC for the foreseeable future.

Oh, wow. Hitler loved Wagner and he was extremely racist, but damn if he wasn't a great composer. That one should absolutely stay up.

Of course. The statue is there because Richard Wagner visited La Spezia more than once and is presumed to have written The Rheingold here.
