Had Hillgoose on ignore for a few days, because of a few dumba*s comments he made on the Iranian situation a few days back....

Maybe I was just a bit upset and "on tilt" or maybe his comments were a bit over the pale...

Doesn't matter either way since sometimes it might be better to use to ignore function once in awhile to allow a brief "cooling down" period of deescalation rather than shoot from the hip unnecessarily....

Because of the recent changes, almost all of us on here are adults now, so yeah agree/disagree whatever.

Added him back in, and now once again I have nobody on ignore on Atlas....

Nothing personal, just that his posts always hurt my brain to parse, and are ultimately fruitless to read since they never contribute to the conversation and nobody ever responds to them.

As an elder wolf offering advice to the young lambs, here is some:

1. If you haven't got anything good to say about someone on the forum, don't say anything;
2. Don't worry about what people think about you.

The most attacking people on the forum who stalk and chase others are invariably those with low self-esteem, and they just want to drag you down into their sad paradigm.

Think about it carefully. Chances are, no one cares about the post you are worrying about, you would be lucky if anyone actually read the post, let alone understood the fight afterwards.

Life is too short to play games with your ignore button. If you cannot deal with a political opinion written on a glass screen on a website in the corner of your house that you look at 5 mins a day, then you probably need some sunlight.

The thing about social media and forums which most young people struggle with:

(a) The number of observers they think are reading their controversial post: 157,000;
(b) The number of people who actually read it: 8;
(c) The number of people who actually cared about the perceived controversy: 0.

You see it more commonly on Facebook.

Young people have major anxiety about (a). But the fear and discomfort is an imaginary construct of their mind.

We've all felt it on forums.

The perception of a mysterious large audience stresses those young neurons to dangerous levels.

Since my return to the forum back in August, I've removed several people from my ignore list, and have only added one other individual (Charcolt) to that list. I've largely kept to my resolution to not allow other people's words to get to me personally, and I have tried to converse better with those with whom I disagree with.
