I admit to never having heard of him before, but yes, he sounds like a complete moron. In other words, he's a perfect fit for the modern GOP.

To make him even more of a perfect fit, he is extremely corrupt and has been indicted but will probably win re-election anyway.

I had heard of him, but only because of his Dad's joke 2008 presidential run, in which he actually managed to get more delegates than early frontrunner Rudy Giuliani. Remember that? Such a simpler time.

The indicted always come up with something like this.

In 1973, Rep. Bertram Podell (D-Brooklyn) was indicted for taking a bribe to help a Florida-based airline gain a travel route to the Bahamas.  Podell responded to his indictment by claiming that he had evidence to sink Nixon, and that was why he was indicted.  Of course, this was nonsense, but Podell almost was renominated in 1974; he lost to Stephen Solarz, who was once on Bill Clinton's short list for SoS.
