This sucks. Google+ was actually pretty useful for some things, plus Ingress used it for announcements.

The decision totowasn't shut it down wasn't  made because of the security breach.

Facebook was too entenched in the market to effectively compete.

I will say that it is very rare for a Google database to be breached.
