Anyone saying Heitkamp is more or less trying to wish it to existence.

She’s a dead duck.

Which is confusing to me because she won in 2012, in what in theory should’ve been a better Republican climate in a state like North Dakota

Back in 2012, her opponent was up by double digits in some polls, and she was considered a slight underdog during the final week leading up to Election Day.

Based on this, I am not prepared to write her off completely just yet - I'll keep monitoring the polls as they come in. If polls conducted during late October/early November show her trailing by a lot, that means her opponent is likely on track to win; if those polls indicate a much narrower deficit or a lead for her, then it's at least a jump ball.
