Doesn't it intensity existing contradictions polarizing American society?

Kavanaugh is just a symptom of the polarization and not a contributor. The Democratic party isnt the one polarizing American political discourse....almost all polarization comes from the GOP. The party keeps growing more deranged and lawless by the day

Right, and the party willing to use a sexual assault victim as a prop to smear a good man because they can't actually win elections or wield any real power... that party is quite the healing force for America.

First of all, this man reeks of alcoholism. Second, he is hyper-partisan, as shown in his screed claiming that the Democratic Party was conspiring against him.

The first federal official to be successfully impeached and convicted was John Pickering, a federal judge, for drunkenness on the bench and unlawful rulings.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Pickering_(judge)

Pickering was in bad health, and he lived just little more than a year after he was removed from the federal bench.  Had Congress not impeached him, then his liver probably would have.

Second, he has perjured himself even about his drinking and its effects. Most 'problem drinkers' severely understate their consumption of alcohol and its effects upon them. I would excuse the drinking if he were to admit that he is an alcoholic and went into rehab. Let us remember: there are two sorts of people with respect to alcohol: those who can drink safely, and those who cannot drink safely. Among those who cannot drink safely are (1) people who have never had a drink, (2) people on the wagon, and (3) problem drinkers.

Third, there are allegations of sexual assaults. They might not be definitively proven in a court of law, and his alleged assault on Christine Blasie Ford might not bring a conviction due to the statute of limitations. Even so, if he can be shown to lie about it, one has perjury -- something absolutely intolerable for a judge. There are other possible cases.

Fourth, he is intensely partisan, and his screed about the Democratic Party being a conspiracy to nullify the Presidency of the Most Wonderful Person to Have Ever Held It (mockery intended)  is inconsistent with a the temperament suitable for judicial office.

Fifth, even if Kavanaugh never gets to serve on the US Supreme Court, you can expect President Trump to nominate someone similarly reactionary. I doubt that he will nominate someone who is a troublesome drinker, has skeletons in the closet or conflicts of interest that can create a perjury trap, or expresses partisan rancor in Senate chambers. He has the prerogative to nominate someone who holds extreme positions on labor-management relations, the rights of women, the right to vote, and judicial process. He could nominate someone who believes that summary execution is due process if he so wishes. Elections have consequences, and we elected a fascist demagogue.

We have a heritage of Supreme Court nominations going back to the time of George Washington, and we have never had anyone this horrible.

Now as the FBI investigation has started I personally see the following variants.
1. The investigation finds nothing new, Kavanaugh is confirmed. K-case has no impact on political processes to be safely forgotten. This is the most plausible variant, in my homespun opinion.
2. FBI findes corroboration for Ford's accusations, Kavanaugh is ruined, the GOP is in deep crisis, Republicans lose midterm and presidential elections.
3. FBI findes out that Ford lied all the time to become a ccelebrity, there was no party, Kavanaugh is right. The Democratic party is in deep crisis, Democrats lose midterm and presidential elections.
4. FBI finds evidence of collusion between Ford and the Democratic establishment. Questions of Democratic senators and Ford's answers during hearings were prepared beforehand. The Democratic Party collapses, as well as the bipartisan system. New parties are formed to compete with Republicans.
5. FBI finds evidence of collusion between Ford and Russia. The whole K-case is an operation of Putin's intelligence services. American political system collapses. Trump declares war on Russia. World War III breaks out.

Latest news:
In a written declaration released Tuesday and obtained by Fox News, an ex-boyfriend of Christine Blasey Ford, the California professor accusing Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, directly contradicts her testimony under oath last week that she had never helped anyone prepare for a polygraph examination.

The former boyfriend, whose name was redacted in the declaration, also said Ford neither mentioned Kavanaugh nor mentioned she was a victim of sexual misconduct during the time they were dating from about 1992 to 1998. He said he saw Ford going to great lengths to help a woman he believed was her "life-long best friend" prepare for a potential polygraph test. He added that the woman had been interviewing for jobs with the FBI and U.S. Attorney's office.

He further claimed that Ford never voiced any fear of flying (even while aboard a propeller plane) and seemingly had no problem living in a "very small," 500 sq. ft. apartment with one door
