So, do you believe it’s proper for the French State to issue court ordered psychiatric testing for Ms. Le Pen based on the situation? Or would you contend that this constitutes a step too far, being a bit too close to what totalitarian regimes would do?

It’s worth mentioning that not only does the Italian Interior Minister defend Le Pen in this situation, but so does her former left-wing rival in the 2017 Presidential election - Jean-Luc Melenchon.

A point about methodology and definitions: we should not confuse the sub-category “totalitarian” (an adjective that may well describe something that has never existed) with the broad umbrella category of “authoritarian”.

As for her conviction, this would only be appropriate if the sharing of images of killing in general was outlawed; or if the sharing of images of killing in general was seen as a practice demanding psychiatric evaluation. Beyond that, I can’t think of a reason for such a court order.

the strangest part of this is that a French court thought this was a good idea.  What possible good could come from this?  Sure, sometimes you have to "do the right thing, even if creates martyrs and reinforces the victim complex in certain people, but only when "the right thing" could lead to some better day.  How could this possibly do that?  Am I missing something?
