Remember that the last time this kind of thing happened in FL was in 2006, where the Democrat won the Senate but the Republican won the governorship.

Yes, the Nelson camp was hoping for Gillum -- his campaign is focused on boosting turnout among Democratic base voters (not just black voters), while Graham's campaign was much more about persuading high-turnout (and generally pro-Scott) demographics.

Things have gotten a lot more partisan since then, which is generally bad, but might be beneficial here and now in FL.
