Senator Feinstein completely bungled her role in the Kavanaugh confirmation battle.

During the hearings, she was passive and didn't really fight in the manner that Dems and Californians want there to be a fight.

She "apologized" for protesters and was seen as overly cozy with the nominee and the Republicans throughout the proceedings...

And now this letter fiasco...

https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/a-sexual-misconduct-allegation-against-the-supreme-court-nominee-brett-kavanaugh-stirs-tension-among-democrats-in-congress

Democrats are livid that Feinstein didn't discuss the letter with committee members and support the woman who came forward with the allegations.

"A source familiar with the committee’s activities said that Feinstein’s staff initially conveyed to other Democratic members’ offices that the incident was too distant in the past to merit public discussion, and that Feinstein had “taken care of it.”"

This looks bad. Covering up an allegation of a woman who felt the need to step forward is not showing support and it does not help bring forth the truth.

The whole thing smacks for Democrats of the treatment of Anita Hill in 1992. And the Kavanaugh appointment is probably the most significant change in the Supreme Court since Clarence Thomas replaced Thurgood Marshall.

Republicans, meanwhile, think that the way Feinstein handled the situation was underhanded and sneaky. That she is supporting a smear of Kavanaugh and that she has handled the situation as a last-ditch dirty maneuver to harm the nominee.

This is very dangerous for Feinstein but I'm not sure KDL can use it to his advantage.

Feinstein's strength is (1) Northern California (2) Moderate Democrat (3) Feminists (4) Republicans (5) African-Americans

KDL has strength with (1) Southern California (2) Progressives (3) Latinos (4) Democratic Insiders.

This disaster has potential to undermine support by feminists for Feinstein while encouraging Republicans to switch sides and/or sit it out.

Meanwhile, Feinstein has decent support from African-Americans. Some like Maxine Waters have felt that she hasn't stood up enough to Trump and that could hurt her.

If Feinstein is unable to get good numbers from the GOP and key support groups are turned off by Feinstein's antics, she could be in trouble.

Given how lopsided the primary results were, I really doubt it.

Also don’t forget the average voter probably knows nothing about this or who’s even on the supreme court

Unless De Leon can really run with this, shes golden. Also, it seems that Republicans are more willing to support De Leon than Feinstein, even when briefed about his views. Really, I think Feinstein wins 65-35, but if energy starts going to De Leon, then.....

It depends on how big the letter is. If nothing comes of it then it'll be forgotten about, and Feinstein will be vindicated. If the accuser steps forward like Anita Hill and Kavanaugh looks like he could be in serious trouble because the accusations are serious and credible then all bets are off.

Not in California, the only person that can win her seat is Loretta Sanchez in a special election, the others would have to go through a nominating process. But, she should of gave up her seat before this.

The alleged victim didn't want details about her to become public because she was concerned about her own safety. She's afraid to come forward. Feinstein kept it secret out of concern for the alleged victim's safety. I sense sexism. KDL's fundraising is still anemic. He could win, but he doesn't have the name recognition yet.

Feinstein is getting a lot of bad press, and shes been in the national news. De Leon is also getting free press, as his condemnation is being discussed in both local and national news.

Still dont think anything changes, but I would like to see at least one poll after this.

If a Democratic SCOTUS candidate was accused of sexual abuse under a Democratic Senate, the nominee would still be voted down.

The fact that she didn't release it (or feed it to the FBI?) back in July when she obtained the info should, but it won't. Of course her main challenger had to be Mr. "Ghost Gun"... absolutely pathetic.

De Leon should be able to make this a ten point race, but he won't win.

Dianne Feinstein 55%
Kevin De Leon 45%

Why would anyone expect a confederacy supporter to stand up to the right-wing?

There's not much difference between De Leon and Feinstein, it's pointless really. I could care less who wins

It should, but it won't. Feinstein is a right-wing POS who doesn't give a sh*t about sexual abuse, but no one in CA seems to notice.

Why am I not surprised that a creep like you also doesn't give a sh*t about sexual abuse?

Those who are unhappy with Feinstein's situation weren't going to vote for her anyway. Many Californians don't even know who her opponent is.

She didn't release it because Dr. Ford (the victim) wanted it to remain confidential, and Feinstein respected her wishes. It's not because Feinstein loved Kavanaugh and wanted him to be confirmed, it's just that sometimes you have to do the right thing instead of the option that is most politically expedient.

Feinstein is a guaranteed vote against Kavanaugh. No blue state Democratic Senator will vote for Kavanaugh. If any Democrats vote yes, they will all be from red states (like Manchin and Donnelly).
