Most Senators are obscure backbenchers and are quickly forgotten.

But some Senators are born great. They achieve greatness. They have greatness thrust upon them.

He is 71. The "all-time greats" generally join the Senate at a younger age and have sufficient time to achieve "greatness."

The only thing Romney could do that would earn him a place in the history books is to lead an effort to convict Trump in the Senate after potential house impeachment.

Short of that, his Senate career will be forgotten 20-30 years from now, and he'll only be remembered as a failed Presidential candidate who lost to Obama.

No, he won't be that significant of a Senator. My guess is he will retire after just one term, and he'll spend much of his time in office grooming one of his sons to run for the seat in 2024.
