Or at least, the last serious contender who is a moderate.

Steve Bullock is everything the democrats need. He's likable, not too liberal, a strong communicator and a principled governor.

He doesn't have the inexperienced outsider label but he's a governor so he doesn't get the slimy insider  label. He's very electable and quite presidential.

There's no known skeletons in his closet, his policies can attract unhappy republicans and former Trump voters, while unifying the left.

He's the GOAT. Prove me wrong. (Pro tip: You can't!)

Other than the gun issue I don't think Bullock is really that different from most of the party. "Moderate" in the Democratic Party has mostly meant "doing what Bill Clinton wants" anyway.

Bullock isn't really a moderate. He is pragmatic for sure, but is mostly a mainstream liberal. He is about as liberal as you can get while still managing to get elected (twice) in Montana.

Bullock would definitely be an excellent candidate, but I doubt he'd make it through the primary. Honestly I'd prefer if he ran for Senate against Steve Daines.

The Democratic Party, a liberal party, doesn't need someone who is "not too liberal". They need the most liberal candidate possible who also has a chance of winning.

Bullock with a Governor Gillum in Florida would be just about the perfect Democratic ticket in terms of appeal.

Blacks, Latinos and Females don't identify with Steve Bullock, most minority groups are familiar with Tim Ryan, Joe Biden, Gillibrand and Cory Booker.

Maybe if he enters the Senate. Right now he seems like a 2%-in-the-primary kind of guy.

I think entering the Senate would ruin any appeal he has. Governors tend to make the strongest Presidential candidates because they aren't covered in the stink of Washington. Squandering his political youth in the Senate seems likes a bad idea.

i'll ditto everyone else, he's a solid liberal (not using that as an insult or anything). I think he's a strong candidate because he's a liberal in MONTANA so he's clearly got some charm.

I can’t wait until this forum's hopes for a Bullock presidency are dashed once and for all.

The questions are:

(A)  What, exactly is a "moderate" as far as a Democrat is concerned?

(B)  How do you convince the more left members of the Democratic Caucus that they need a bigger tent?

One thing about Bullock is he just comes off as a likable person who people feel comfortable with. It's not something overly technocratic like Harris, Booker and Gillibrand. He will go to the smaller events in Iowa, Obama did this and it paid off. The east and west coasters have trouble in these settings but this is actually how Gillum pulled off his miracle in Florida...by going all over the state and connecting on a personal basis instead of NYC donors.

A:

Literally anyone who doesn't align with the "progressive"/democratic socialist front or the loony Hillary/Biden/Harris establishment.

B:

I don't need to, it's common sense if they want to win. Have fun making gains in the WWC or winning over moderate and independent voters with someone like Cory Booker! LOL!

Excellent points by the OP. That's why have argued he's the best Democratic candidate for 2020.

I wouldn't say he's "too moderate", depending on what this means, but he's a pragmatist who can get stuff done.

I think Bullock has a chance for the nomination. He needs to pull and upset in Iowa like Obama did in 2008. I could see him winning New Hampshire and possibly Nevada as well (South Carolina not so much).

Bullock with a Governor Gillum in Florida would be just about the perfect Democratic ticket in terms of appeal.

Gillum would be a fine running mate, but I think Harris is better. She has Washington experience and is a charismatic woman.

I am outside of Ohio, and I know who Tim Ryan is.

Although, to be fair, I first heard of him in Ohio, and specifically in his congressional district also.

So that sort of proves your point, I guess Cheesy

Nobody on this forum counts for name recognition questions. It's obvious people on an obscure political forum would know obscure politicians.
