I don't know much about Florida politics. Therefore I was surprised that DeSantis' performance in counties like Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Monroe, Collier, and Lee. He won these counties by 40-50 points, while he only won Volusia (his district) by 28 points.
Is DeSantis being Hispanic the only plausible explanation for his landslide victory in South Florida? Other explanations?

The funny thing is, DeSantis isn't even Hispanic, but even I thought he was, and he was listed on wikipedia as a Hispanic-American politician. It'd be hilarious if that's what pushes him over the top in November.

I shouldn't have trusted Wikipedia.

DeSantis is far more likeable.  He's also far more real, and he's got a sense of humor.

Putnam (whom I reluctantly voted for) is Howdy Doody with misleading ads.  And he got caught at misleading people about DeSantis's record, which ended up reminding some voters of DeSantis's stances on things like Fair Tax and abolishing the Federal Income Tax that many GOP Primary voters like.

The last poll put Putnam 1 point behind.  It's as if DeSantis got 90% of the undecideds.

DeSantis is also a much better fit for South Florida.  He's a native Floridian, but not a "Southerner" per se.  He comes off as more urbane and sophisticated, whereas Putnam came off as a simpleton, asking the simpletons of Florida to vote for him.

Ironically, what hurt Putnam was his position as "Commissioner of Agriculture".  He would have been better off if he had stayed in Congress.  The Ag Commissioner in FL is an important job and does a lot of things, but FL's voters are urban and suburban voters and the problems with toxic algae in their waterways is blamed on FL"s sugar industry, which is regulated by the FL Dept of Agriculture.  Not a good thing for Putnam this year.

Putnam seems like the sort of candidate who would have done well in the Florida of 20-30 years ago, when it was a less urban, more "Southern" state.

Do we know what ethnicity Ron DeSantis actually is? Italian? Greek?
