Hopefully this is not the start of another political dynasty. I'd rather it be Kelli Ward.
Honestly, I would not mind Kelli Ward. It would be a tradeoff. We get a worse Senator for 2 years but a higher chance of defeating them after those 2 years.

Well she would have two years to adopt a more moderate record and prepare for re-election.

It was supposed to be McSally, but she didn't have any patience and decided to run for Flake's seat. If she looses I still see her being appointed. the swamp runs deep.

Like I've said, Meghan McCain recently moved back into Arizona, is young, and more conservative than Cindy McCain

If Ward or McSally finishes second in this year's primary, they'll get the appointment,

Otherwise, it's Cindy McCain's seat if she wants it.

If Cindy doesn't want it, and Ward and McSally are no goes for some reason, don't rule out Jan Brewer on a caretaker basis (I doubt Brewer would run for the rest of the term, but she'd be a solid pick compared to say...Salmon, Franks or Gosar).

I really don't think it will be ward, her post requesting his Senate seat after he announced his diagnosis rubbed many the wrong way

If Ducey has just lost reelection, maybe he'd appoint himself.

Why are people forgetting Meaghan McCain is completely unlikeabe and not very smart. She’d be screwed in the special.

even if we pretend that's true, the same can be said of many politicians who have long careers, how else can you explain Maxine Waters or Louie Gohmert?

He can, but it only makes sense if McCain holds on until after the election, and Ducey loses reelection.

Any other scenario, and Ducey appointing himself makes no sense, since it both puts the Governor's seat at risk, and he'd probably lose the Senate seat too.

Neither one is a Senator nor represents a swing district.

What about Attorney General Mark Brnovich? He's run statewide, and doesn't have the baggage of Gosar/Schweikert/Ward.

The difference is Auntie Maxine and Loony Louie are smart enough to know that they would get destroyed statewide due to their polarizing personalities and views.

Meaghan McCain, while an airhead, is smart enough to know that she couldn't stand on her own two feet statewide...or at least I hope she is.

Im pretty sure Doug Doucey has said in the past that he would appoint himself for the seat, and let the Lt. Gov run for the general. That was back in April and May, but I dont think Doug has changed his mind, especially since it looks like he could lose the general.

Cindy McCAin is likely to get appointed, and hopefully Ducey loses in Nov, anyways.

Why not Meghan McCain?

Cindy McCain
Jan Brewer
Matt Salmon
Ward or McSally if they lose primary?

Doesn't the party have to submit a list of possible replacements in AZ? Or am I mistaken?

Well, it looks like the event of replacing McCain is official.

In my mind, the most likely replacements are:

Doug Ducey
Meghan McCain
Cindy McCain
Kelly Ward/Martha McSally

Kelli Ward would be such a slap in the face to McCain. Same with Ducey. Cindy and Meghan are the right choices as caretakers until 2020. I think Meghan McCain is the likely replacement though, didn't she change her residency just recently to AZ?
But if the party makes the list, it's hard to see Meghan McCain on it.

TBH, I dont see McCain's legacy being respected. The R party of AZ has to make a list of candidates, and Doug Ducey has to choose one. Ducey was saying in may that he would appoint himself, and Im pretty sure that position has not changed.
