https://www.innocenceproject.org/

Founded in part by Barry Scheck (one of O. J. Simpson's lawyers), the Innocence Project works to exonerate wrongly convicted persons, largely by DNA evidence. Thus far it has exonerated over 350 people, and in over 150 of those cases, the true perpetrator has been found.

Or, as I am fond of telling my Statistics students, it works to correct Type I errors in the criminal justice system.

I vote FP. It is one of the organizations I am most proud of singing the praises of.

FP

Maybe because the founder was a lawyer for O. J. Simpson?

Why would that be a bad thing?

I'm going to start another thread about that.

I honestly don't know; in fact I can't imagine it. That's why my only option was "Other", in case someone wished to express reservations about the organization (which I don't have, personally).

Okay. This is going to sound idiotic, but what are the various types of errors in the criminal justice system? And how does one go about rectifying each one?

I'm no expert, but it's my understanding that coerced confessions are a big problem, fed perhaps in part by the DA's desire to "get somebody" and reduce the percentage of unsolved crimes.

I'd imagine the site itself has better information than I could provide.
