Hammond's Trump was pretty solid, but I can definitely understand why Lorne Michaels replaced him going into the general election in 2016: he played Trump as a very broadly pitched cartoon, but Baldwin plays him as a specifically antagonistic cartoon villain, which is probably more desirable to audiences right now. I think Hammond is better at Trump's mannerisms and tics, whereas Baldwin captures what it feels like to hear Trump talk (and little else, if you ask me). It is possible/probable that Hammond getting replaced was inevitable, but I'd like to believe that if he'd modified the impression a little bit and played more into the character's shifts in perception during the campaign, he'd still be playing him.

That's an interesting way to look at it. I never really thought about that.

I guess my theory is that it all comes down to what the core of his image is. The joke about Trump has always been that he's such an over-the-top narcissist that he's already his own parody. But there's a difference in what most people want, and how that plays, when he's the host of a reality show versus the President of the United States.

(Of course, this doesn't change my mind that Hammond's Trump is all-around better than Baldwin's.)

Personally, I'd love to see someone play Trump as a straightman. The only way to parody self-parody is to play it straight. Otherwise, I might as well just watch the news.

I usually always expect the worst out of Trump, but I still can't believe how callous he is to make this observation! What the f*** is wrong with him? I know that he has no sense of self-awareness, but this is a whole new level of that!

And why does he always pick on Blumenthal? I couldn't think of a more benign, bland, Democratic member of Congress if I tried. And to specifically mock him for his service in Vietnam makes this even more perplexing.

Hillary should keep teasing that she might run until 5 minutes before the DNC starts.  This would keep Trump's attention on her and leave less time for him to attack the other D candidates. Smiley

She's getting good with the memes though (if it's even her using that handle, that is), so I would probably enjoy the back-and-forths that would occur.

So America became great in the 30 seconds between those 2 tweets? He also made a point to @ Fox And Friends in a tweet right before this, which was at this exact time on commercial break and showing a 2-for-$5 sandwich Arby's commercial.

I don't think she was fired. Though they may be considering it since they didn't air a new episode of her show, or something, on Friday night and the President is upset about it. It's good to see that he has his priorities straight.

Other than the last month of the campaign when the staff took over his twitter, I'm pretty sure this is the most he tweeted in a weekend. There was a 5 minute span yesterday where he retweeted about 10 things. All nonsense/hate of course.
