I apologize for creating a thread for this in the midst of current issues, but I asked the question in a comment a few years ago, and got no response, so here goes:

I recall reading somewhere, years ago (perhaps in the Michigan Manual or the Almanac of American Politics) that in his 1974 bid for MI Governor, Sander Levin (D) came out for school vouchers. As a result, he lost the endorsement of the Michigan Education Association, which supported Gov. William Milliken (R). Milliken went on to win, 51.1% - 46.75%, in a Democratic wave year.

Can anyone verify this? I have searched the Internet and found nothing.
